Recent questions have been raised about whether taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) during pregnancy could be linked to autism. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) points to large, well-designed studies showing no evidence of such a connection, including a 2024 JAMA study that found no significant association.
When considering the use of medication in pregnancy, it’s important to consider all potential risks along with any benefits. Catholic Health supports the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy, when taken as needed, in moderation, and after consultation with a doctor.
