This month, our employee spotlight features Stephanie Sova, Physical Therapist.

Stephanie has worked as a Physical Therapist in Elderwood at Lockport for the past year. She became interested in physical therapy by seeing others achieve improvements in their lives through therapy. Stephanie graduated with her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Buffalo.

The best part of working as a therapist for Stephanie is seeing people get better. She is motivated by seeing them feel better about themselves, alleviate pain, and improve their mobility.

Stephanie met her husband while attending UB. They have 2 boys and a lab/pitbull mix named Fiona. She enjoys reading, cooking, hiking, and kayaking in her free time.

When asked what her favorite quote was, she said, "In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” It's easy to see why she was chosen as our employee spotlight!

This month we would like to recognize our Clinical Staffing Specialist, Kortney Wheeler. Kortney has been with us since 2016; she completed her CNA training in our building and moved up to her current position in 2018. Kortney has the most challenging task of maintaining our clinical schedule for nurses and aides. As we all know, this at times is a 24 hour job. She has been described by her co workers as caring, loyal, and honest. She provides support and lends an ear to all staff. She says that she loves that in her role she is still able to be out on the units with the residents. Kortney is married with 3 boys - and another one on the way! We are all so thankful to have her on our Elderwood team.

We would like to recognize Melissa McKenzie as our employee of the month!

Melissa has been a certified nursing assistant in our building for over 24 years. She is recognized by her peers as a team player, completing her tasks ahead of time so that she can lend a hand to her fellow staff members. She is flexible and has a positive attitude and goes above and beyond to provide excellent care to the residents every day. She truly cares and treats every resident as family. On many days, Melissa arrives a few hours prior to her normally scheduled shift, picking up additional hours so that she may assist on the afternoon shift.

Melissa's care reflects the highest quality that is expected by residents and her positive attitude and genuine smile have earned her the love and respect of peers and residents alike.
Melissa says that the best part of her job is working with and getting to know the residents. Her son Jack even works in our dietary department.

Melissa is considered a role model for others to emulate.

We are having a busy, yet fun week! Today we enjoyed the music of the talented Tom Bender! Staff were treated with sub trays for Nursing Home Week, as well as pizza from a very kind family of one our residents!

What a fun day we’ve had! We celebrated Nursing Home Week with cotton candy for staff and a visit from Shenandoah Acres Farm for our residents (ok, maybe for staff too!).
