Exciting news! The FDA just approved the first spectacle lenses that are proven to slow the progression of nearsightedness in childhood. We look forward to bringing this technology to our pediatric patients as soon as it is available!
Today, we authorized the marketing of the first eyeglass lenses to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children 6 to 12 years old at the initiation of treatment. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-authorizes-marketing-first-eyeglass-lenses-slow-progression-pediatric-myopia
The eyeglass lenses may reduce the likelihood of severe eyesight issues later in adult life and carry lower risks than the currently approved treatment alternative for slowing progression of myopia.
