CHARLES R. “CHIP” TINDER IV
Charles R. "Chip" Tinder IV, 44, of Fayetteville, WV, unexpectedly passed away of natural causes on Sunday, February 8, 2026. The son of Cheryl (Keith) Davis and the late Charles R. "Chuck" Tinder III, Chip was born July 1, 1981, in Charleston, WV. He attended Justice Grade School, Beth Haven Christian School, and Logan High School; later, he studied at The Art Institute of Portland, Oregon. He was baptized at the age of 7 at his home church, Sunbeam Chapel, by his maternal grandfather, Rev. James Fortune.
Chip was employed with the Fayette County Public Library system, where he found joy in working with students as a bookmobile driver and library clerk. He also loved his time at Cantrell Ultimate Rafting and House Grill in Fayetteville—in every role, from groundskeeper to whitewater rafting guide, and in between, helping out wherever needed. He was proud to have been a part of the family-owned book publishing company, Woodland Press LLC, in Chapmanville, for about a decade, as bookkeeper, IT specialist, and website designer.
In addition to his mother, stepfather, and grandfather, Chip is survived by his loving partner, Stacey Carroll; sisters, Caryn (Wayne) Tinder, of Winston-Salem, NC, and Josie (Chris) Inghram, of Cedar Grove, WV; step-sister, Sarah (Jamie) Davis, of Bruno, WV; step-brother, Jarrod (Maryjane) Davis, of Logan, WV; aunts, Lisa Tinder, of Holden, WV; Tammy (Bucky) Butcher, of Chapmanville, WV; and Cyndi (Mark) Stuemke, of Pooler, GA; uncles, Tim (Trish) Fortune, of New Bern, NC, and Jerry (Carol) Mawhorter, of Royal Oak, MI; and dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. In addition, Chip leaves behind a whole host of very special friends and coworkers who will continue to mourn his loss, including two particularly close friends, Carlos Adkins and Joshua Clay, as well as his beloved dogs, Hazel and Belle.
Chip loved spending time in nature—hence his choice to live in the beautiful New River Gorge Area of the Mountain State—hiking, kayaking, fishing, rafting, and enjoying photography and flying drones. Considered to be a computer geek and expert in all things technology by friends and family, Chip also enjoyed playing guitar, gaming, reading, cooking, and especially, spending time with Stacey.
The funeral will be held on Monday, February 16th, at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan. Visitation is from 4 - 6 pm, followed by the service at 6 pm, with Rev. James Fortune presiding, and music provided by Chip's cousin Joshua Butcher.
Additionally, a Celebration of Life is scheduled for the preceding day—Sunday, February 15th, from 2 - 5 pm—at Cantrell Ultimate Rafting in Fayetteville, hosted by very special friend and work mom, Nancy Cantrell. Friends, family, and coworkers are all invited to attend.
