Coloboma is a rare eye condition someone is born with, where part of the eye tissue doesn’t fully form. It can affect one or both eyes and may involve areas like the iris, retina, lens, or optic nerve. 👁️
Some people have no symptoms, while others may experience vision loss, low vision, or sensitivity to light. In some cases, coloboma is visible, such as a pupil that appears more teardrop or keyhole shaped.
While coloboma can’t be reversed, early diagnosis through a comprehensive eye exam and personalized care can make a meaningful difference. Treatments may include glasses or contacts, vision aids, patching, or surgery to improve appearance and support the best possible vision.
If your child has coloboma or you have concerns about their eye development, talk with your eye doctor about the right care plan. Support and solutions are available. 💙
