I used to encourage everybody to "talk to someone," any therapist. Now, I give different advice. You really need to understand that you have the power in the situation.
If a therapist does not align with you, go see another one.
For example, you may talk in a "spiritual" way..."I was talking to my guides the other day and...."
If you have a therapist who isn't open minded to the way a spiritualist may speak, they won't be able to effectively help you and may even misinterpret what you are saying.
How do you know your words are being misinterpreted?
Most therapists say back to you what they heard and what it sounds like it might have meant.
"So, you said ___________ and it sounds like you are saying you feel ________."
If the, so it sounds like you're saying you feel __________ is always incorrect, that is NOT your therapist.
Definitely, definitely talk to someone. However, always listen to see if you feel heard and validated.
It should be a safe space. You should not feel like you are being judged or not allowed to express yourself fully as you are.
💥Nurse Dei®️-ism: I talk to therapists probably weekly as friends, my clients, and as their client.
I am always researching 🤣...my word for listening with deeper understanding so that I can help others.
I've been the client before and the therapist KEEPS saying back to me something I haven't said.
Like Bruh! (She was a woman 🤣) Are you EVEN listening?!? I felt like it was an uphill battle to keep trying to explain myself.
Like Bruh, that aint even not what I just said to you. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤣
So, make sure you feel safe in your sessions. Make sure your therapist is not saying things to you like, "You're only focused on yourself and being selfish."
This my session! I'm supposed to be talking about myself and how I feel. 🤣
You can always, always, always choose another therapist.
Make sure you are giving therapy a chance. Don't just bow out at the first in your face statement. However, don't just stay with a therapist who is talking to you from a superior place; instead of meeting you where you are.
Therapy is for everyone. Every therapist is not for everyone.
