We have so much to celebrate at Totally Kids! In the past two months, 4 of our residents have officially discharged home. Each of these moments represents more than just a milestone... it’s the result of countless hours of care, courage, and love.

From the determination of our kids, to the commitment of their families, to the dedication of our staff, every step of the journey has led to this beautiful new chapter. While goodbyes are always bittersweet, seeing our kids return home where they belong fills us with joy and pride.

Congratulations to these amazing families. We are cheering you on every step of the way!

Our residents had the BEST time at the Discovery Cube in Orange County! They explored every exhibit in their own way and loved every moment.

One of the sweetest highlights was when a resident noticed another boy wearing the same shirt. He went right up, pointed to the boy’s shirt and then to his own, and just like that, a connection was made. Such a wonderful reminder of why these outings matter so much. 💙

From exhibits such as sand and water play to hands-on science activities, our residents had plenty of chances to stretch their legs, get curious, and explore. The day was full of smiles, discovery, and fun.

🌟 Thank You, Youth and Adult Volunteers! 🌟

From June through August, our amazing volunteers gave their time, talents, and kindness to Totally Kids. Our youth volunteers brought fresh energy and creativity to activities and events, while our summer volunteers of all ages shared their compassion and dedication to brighten each day for our residents.

Together, they made this summer unforgettable... filling it with joy, laughter, and connection. We are so grateful for each of you! 💖

🌺 Aloha from Totally Kids! 🌺

Before our residents headed back to school, we celebrated with an end-of-the-summer luau in our multipurpose room — and it was full of joy! Residents beamed as they watched return with three talented dancers performing traditional Polynesian dances.

The energy was contagious as residents danced along from their seats, staff clapped to the rhythm, and everyone shared smiles throughout the performance. At the end, residents, staff, and volunteers enjoyed a wonderful chance to take pictures with the dancers, creating memories to treasure.

Mahalo to Leiali’inani Polynesian Dance Academy for bringing the island spirit to life for our residents once again... what a perfect way to say goodbye to summer!

🌟 Marilyn’s Home Update 🌟

Marilyn has been home for a few months and is doing amazing! We recently received photos and videos of her sitting tall, walking in her gait trainer, and working hard in therapy. She’s showing just how strong and capable she really is. With family's encouragement, Marilyn is pushing through the hard moments and reaching new goals. It’s not always easy, but she’s thriving and proving that determination goes a long way.

Way to go, Marilyn. We are so proud of you!

Our Disney-themed summer continued with a magical day just for our girl residents! Thanks to the amazing staff, volunteers, and the TKids Thrive program, the Bippidy Boppidy Boutique came to life, complete with princess dresses, makeup, hair styling, tiaras, and even a photoshoot fit for royalty. 👑💄📸

The sparkle in their eyes said it all. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special! 💖

Stay tuned to see what the boys will do for their special day. Something fun is definitely in store!

💦 Water play fun at Totally Kids!

From splashing in kiddie pools to dipping hands in the water, swinging in the breeze, chasing bubbles, and exploring sensory toys—our residents had a blast! We kept cool in the shade, soaked up a little sun, and made some beautiful memories together. ☀️💙

After surviving a traumatic car accident, Ryion arrived at Totally Kids unable to walk, talk, eat, or breathe on his own. He had a severe brain injury and was in a minimally responsive state. Recovery felt uncertain, but his mother held onto something stronger than fear: faith.

"The best advice I could give is to keep hope alive, keep prayer alive, and lean on those around you," she shared. "Prayer is powerful."

Slowly, Ryion began to wake up. He was moved to acute rehab, and with every therapy session and small win, he pushed forward. The trach came out. The G-tube came out. His voice returned. Then came the steps. First shaky, then steady. One day, he was walking laps and calling it "light work."

The day he walked out of the hospital was unforgettable. His journey wasn’t easy, but it was filled with faith, family, and fierce determination.

Today, Ryion is thriving. And we are honored to have been part of his incredible story. 💙

After 28 years of dedication, compassion, and incredible care, our amazing Respiratory Therapist, Janet, has retired!
Janet has been a steady, kind, and reliable part of our respiratory team always putting our pediatric patients first, supporting her coworkers with heart, and building friendships that will last a lifetime. Her calm presence and the hand-picked fruits from her garden will be dearly missed!
Janet’s gentle touch and reassuring nature made a world of difference to our pediatric patients and their families. She brought comfort during some of their most difficult moments, and her legacy will live on in the lives she touched.
Thank you, Janet, for everything you’ve given to our department, our hospital, and most importantly, to our kids. We wish you all the best in this next chapter you’ve more than earned it!

We love hearing from our past residents, and we’re excited to share an update about Emmerit!

After leaving Totally Kids last year to continue care out of state, Emmerit officially moved home with his family earlier this spring, and he’s doing great! 💙

Thank you to Emmerit’s family for keeping us updated and sharing these great photos. We’re so proud of him and wish them all the best as they continue this journey together.
