Thanks to donors, AMOR Projects has a small boat in Peru that is being used to go out to the far-flung villages along the Ucayali River. There they set up mobile medical clinics to serve the villagers, whose access to medical care is very limited. This is done in coordination with the pastors in charge of the visited districts, and, along with the medical care, the Good News of salvation and of Christ's Second Coming is shared with those who are interested. Recently the AMOR Projects team went to the villages of Islandia, Sharamasho, and Shapajal.
As usual, we had to improvise and be very flexible to set up a place in a thatch-roofed, wooden hut to do clinic—
Although the circumstances are rustic and improvised, we are very gratified to know that we are providing a vital service to people who otherwise would not get the care that they need.
One piece of equipment that has proved very useful is the ultrasound machine. With it we have been able to diagnose and provide transportation for and facilitate treatment for several different conditions, giving them access to the specialized care that they need. The ultrasound was useful on this trip in helping to diagnose, along with the clinical signs, probable acute appendicitis in a young mother. She was one of the first patients of the day. She walked very slowly and painfully, complaining of great pain in the lower right area of her abdomen. Upon examination, she was found to have a rigid abdomen, with pain suggestive of appendicitis. The ultrasound did not show gallstones but showed free fluid in her abdominal cavity, which also gave the impression of some acute process going on. In light of this, we started an IV on her and arranged with her family and community members to get her to Pucallpa, where she would likely need to have surgery to save her for a ruptured appendix.
Thank you yet again, dear donors, for your generosity in providing for the boat maintenance, for diesel for the boat, for the staff, equipment, and for the medicines to help these medically indigent people. You are ministering not only to their physical needs, but also helping sow the seeds of salvation in their hearts. We pray that these seeds may sprout and produce much fruit, and that we will be able to see these dear people in heaven.
May God bless you!
