This hadith points out that the diversity in people’s behaviors and dispositions is deeply rooted in our nature. Yet, even though these traits are partly inherited, we still have the ability to refine, guide, and cultivate them; developing balance, moderation, and eventually turning them into virtues.

When Prophet Nuh (ʿalayhi as-salām) saw his son among those who would not be saved, he appealed to Allah, remembering the promise his Lord had made to him.

Allah replied:
"O Nuh, he is not of your family; his conduct was unrighteous." (Hūd, 46)

So Nuh (ʿalayhi as-salām) turned to his Lord and said:
"My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking what I do not know.
If You do not forgive me and have mercy on me, I will be among the losers." (Hūd, 47)

This moment reminds us that even a prophet, with all his sincerity, effort, and love, could not control the outcome for his own child.

We are responsible for doing our best in our roles, as parents, friends, or loved ones, but the outcome is never in our hands. Guidance belongs only to Allah. This is what prayer instills in us: doing our part, and trusting Allah with the unseen.
