A Letter from Dr. Mendez 🤍

Dear Clients of Animal Care Hospital,

After seventeen years together, this is one of the hardest messages I’ve ever had to write. As many of you know, I have been trying to step back and work part‑time, hoping to find a balance that would allow me to continue supporting our clients/friends/family while also spending more time with my family. Despite my best efforts, what I learned is that my heart doesn’t know how to give anything less than everything—and working part‑time made it hard for me to meet the needs of all the pets and people I care so deeply about. I never wanted to feel like I was falling short for any of you. And so, with a very heavy heart, I have made the decision to step away. This clinic has been my life’s work, but more importantly, all of you have become my family. I cannot begin to express the appreciation I have for the love, trust, and support you’ve given me over these many years. You welcomed me into your lives, allowed me to care for your beloved animals, and shared so many moments—joyful, heartbreaking, and everything in between. You watched my kids grow up, and you helped shape me into the veterinarian and person I am today. That is a gift I will carry with me forever. Although I am stepping away, I want you to know that I am leaving you in truly exceptional hands. Dr. Axline, Dr. Snow, and Dr. Aldoretta are remarkable doctors—compassionate, skilled, and deeply committed to the well‑being of your pets. And the staff you know and love remain the same: dedicated, kind, and endlessly supportive. I have complete confidence in them, and I hope that brings you comfort as I transition into this next chapter. I will miss you all more than I can say. Thank you for every smile, every story, every shared moment, and every ounce of trust you placed in me. It has been an honor to be part of your lives and to care for the animals who mean so much to you.

Please give a warm welcome to our new exotics veterinarian, Dr. Rebecca Aldoretta! 🤍🐾

Dr. Aldoretta graduated from Kansas State University in 2015. After graduation she underwent two years of additional training with a focus on emergency and critical care medicine. After several years working with small animals in general practice and emergency settings, she pursued a third year long internship in zoo, exotic and wildlife medicine. She has worked in a variety of fields including small animal general practice, wildlife, zoo and with non-traditional (exotic) pets. While she loves working with all animals, Dr. Aldoretta is especially passionate about non-traditional pets.

In her free time she enjoys exploring California, amateur birdwatching, reading fantasy novels and spending time with her fiancé Chip, her German Shepherd mix Maya and her two pigeons Hubert and Elara.

Because of Dr. Aldoretta joining our team, we are so excited to now offer care for exotic and non-traditional pets! From birds and reptiles to small mammals and more, we can’t wait to welcome even more unique family members into our clinic. If you’ve been looking for trusted exotic care, we’re here for you! 🦜🦎🐰💚

Now through Dec 31, we’re hosting a Pet Food Drive with a donation bin right in our lobby. Bring in dog & cat food (wet or dry) + treats and we’ll deliver everything to a local shelter.

We’re excited to share that Dr. Snow will be back from maternity leave right after Thanksgiving! 🩺🐾 We’ve missed her, and we know many of you have too!

With her return, we’ll be back to having three doctors on staff, so appointments should be easier to book moving forward. BUT her schedule is already starting to fill up, so if you’ve been waiting to see Dr. Snow, now’s the time to call and get on her books! 🤍

Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week was a blast! ✨

We took time to celebrate everyone on our incredible team, from vet technicians and assistants to receptionists and kennel assistants, because it truly takes a village 🐾

Huge thanks to our amazing reps who treated us with delicious food from Mama’s Cafe, Eddie’s, Panera, and Capulin Eats & Provisions. One of our vet assistant’s sister treated us to Lompoc Donuts this week too! Thank you!!!

And a special shoutout to our wonderful doctors for the sweet cards, surprise dirty soda bar, and dinner/margaritas at El Toro Bronco! Thank you to our clients for the uplifting notes as well. 💌

Our veterinary technicians are the heart of our hospital, the ones caring for your pets behind the scenes. They assist in surgeries, take X-rays, run lab work, monitor anesthesia, draw blood, place IVs, comfort nervous patients, and so much more. Their compassion and skill help keep every tail wagging and every purr strong.

We have recently expanded our hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, along with Saturdays hours, to accommodate those clients that work or commute. Dr. Tammy Mendez, her associates Dr. Rachelle Wemmer and Dr. Kati Bennett and our staff pride ourselves on our close, approachable relationships with our clients. Additionally, we are available to our existing clients for after hour emergencies. We are here to be your full service pet provider.
