What if the way we teach isn’t actually about us?
There are so many conversations in this industry about how to teach, demo or don’t demo, stay on your mat or walk the room, memorize or flow intuitively.
But rarely do we pause and ask,
who are we teaching for?
Every class we lead is a mix of nervous systems.
Different learning styles, different processing speeds, different needs, many of which we will never be told about.
Some students need to hear it.
Some need to see it.
Some need to feel it side by side.
And when we only teach one way, we unintentionally leave people out.
For me, this is why I choose to both demonstrate and move through the room.
To teach to bodies, not just into space.
To offer multiple entry points into the same movement.
Not because it’s “the right way” to teach,
but because it’s a more inclusive way to teach.
Clear, layered instruction doesn’t just improve understanding, it creates safety.
And when students feel safe, they learn, connect, and stay.
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about awareness.
And remembering that every room we walk into is more diverse than we think.
If you’re a teacher, I’d love to hear your take 🤍
