LJ FFA competed at the state grassland evaluation contest today South of Ashland. We lost some ground from districts but still had a good time. We made a stop for a short tour of the state capitol building before grabbing some ice cream at Central Dairy on the way back!

On Monday, a few of the LJ FFA officers traveled to Lone Jack Elementary to recognize all of the participants in our annual Farm Safety Poster contest.

Posters are created every September in the 4th grade art classes to help spread the word during National Farm Safety Week. Posters are voted on by current FFA members and the winning posters are kept on permanent display in the high school ag classroom while those students earn some FFA swag.

Congrats to this year’s winning entries produced by Olivia, Sydney and Vicky!

Five LJ FFA members participated in a jack-o’-lantern carving contest while other members conducted business at this mornings chapter meeting. This was a BYOGP (gutted pumpkin) event and this crew did a great job!

Congrats to our winning carvers: 1st place Ryan, 2nd place Mylee, 3rd place Colton (Honorable mentions to Mavy T and Mikey W)

Also a special shoutout to ‘Sparky’ Sam for wiring up our light fixture to make these glow! (It may or may not have been user error that led to the partial electricution of the pumpkin master, my arm is still tingling!)

LJ FFA wrapped up the fall trap shooting season yesterday with a team celebration. As a team we finished in 4th place in the area league and our top shooter was Cash Hale earning 7th place overall.
Members got to coach their parents in a round of trap before we all played multiple rounds of Annie Oakley and enjoyed a pot luck cookout! A big thank you to all of the members and family members in attendance and for contributing to the meal.
There was a lot of lead shot yesterday and probably some sore shoulders to go with it today!

LJ FFA had a good day at the Central District Grassland Evaluation contest today in Concordia. The scoring team of Mylee, Aiden, Cash and Sophia placed 4th overall and qualified for the state contest to be held next week in the Columbia area. Special recognition to Mylee and Aiden for both placing in the top ten individually, 6th and 10th respectively.
Way to go!

This week is National Farm Safety week, a great time to remind everyone to pay attention to slow moving vehicles using the roadways getting to and from fields during the harvest season!!

Missouri has entered the fall harvest season and it’s important that drivers and farmers pay attention and share the road. In 2024, there were 194 Missouri traffic crashes involving farm equipment/implements. In those crashes, two people were killed and 65 were injured.

Lone Jack Ag students participated in National day today by competing in the ‘Break Out of Ordinary’ escape challenge. Four teams managed to finish the challenge within the class period.
