Nurtured Hearts Counseling, PLLC

Nurtured Hearts Counseling, PLLC You desperately seek relief from the pain that clings to you like a magnet. The pain that haunts you It can be heart wrenching and overwhelming.

Nurtured Hearts Counseling was created out of my ultimate passion for working with people as well as my dream to have a private practice. I have myself experienced that life is not always what you dream it to be. There are many obstacles that fall in the way and life often feels out of our control. I pursued my own therapy process about 5 years ago and it changed my life! I was very unhappy prior to pursuing therapy, as my life events had gotten the best of me. I was exhausted, lost, and an open wound. I know that this process is not an easy one, but absolutely worth every single aspect. Yes, it is an investment, both financially and emotionally. But I advocate for the therapy process very strongly. It works if you are willing to devote yourself to the process. I never ask anything of my clients that I have not or am not willing to do myself. Unfortunately, I figured out that our society treats many topics as taboo. I learned this the hard way through personal experience. These topics were often treated like they had a contagious disease attached to them. No one wanted to touch them and often turned a blind eye to the fact that they even existed. It then became my passion to advocate for those that have experienced these issues and provide support. It can often feel very lonely. Have you experienced difficulties with any of the below taboo subjects?

- Grief
- Trauma
- Sexual Abuse
- Self-Esteem
- Self-Love

What happens if I don’t think about what happened?

If I don’t make space for or ignore the emotion or bad memory when it comes up, it will go away, right? I wish I could tell you yes. It is natural to desire the easiest way out, to not feel any pain. However, I have a sign in my office that reads: “Its about the journey, not the destination”. The growth and understanding of yourself that comes from going through the journey rather than immediately getting to the destination is what it is all about.

By pushing emotions down or ignoring them all together, you are unfortunately creating the opposite effect of what you are hoping. While in the immediate moment, your goal of not experiencing pain is possible, emotions have to come out at some point. I’ll give you a few examples of what this looks like if you push them down and don’t make space for them as they come up. Read more on the blog link.

Have you ever experienced a smell, sight, sound, touch, or taste that reminds you of something from the past? One example would be the smell of a specific recipe that reminds you of your grandma and the wonderful memories you have with her. The smell brings about warm emotions and the love you have for her.

The same is true of memories that don’t hold such wonderful feelings. We call these triggers - when you experience something in the present that pulls you back to the past. Usually if a trigger is occurring, there has been an event(s) that left a lasting impact. We would label these events trauma.

Often times, we are not willing to acknowledge the impact that an experience has on our life until it becomes so overwhelming that it starts to affect other areas of our life - work, school, the ability to hold onto relationships, etc.

What is Trauma? Trauma is a very used term right now, but many people don't know whether their experiences qualify as "trauma" and sometimes they don't want to give their experiences that much power....

Fight. Flight. Freeze

These are all words that many of us are aware of, but do you understand the impact that they have on your own life?
Did you know that our nervous system’s prime responsibility is to keep us alive and safe. Did you know that our nervous system goes into action without us even having to think about it? This is a benefit to us, but it can also make life feel really unpredictable and can make us feel “out of control”.
