Supporting a loved one through grief can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re unsure what to say or do. The truth is, your presence matters more than perfect words.

Start by simply being there. Sit with them, listen without trying to fix their pain, and allow them to express their emotions freely. Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, so patience is essential. What they need today may look different tomorrow.

Offer practical support. Small acts like preparing a meal, helping with errands, or checking in with a text can ease their burden. Often, those grieving struggle with daily tasks, and your help can provide much-needed relief.

Be mindful of your words. Instead of trying to find the “right” thing to say, focus on being genuine. Phrases like “I’m here for you” or “You don’t have to go through this alone” can bring comfort without pressure.
