The Guidance Center

The Guidance Center Since 1946, The Guidance Center has been a beacon and provider of hope for our community’s most disadvantaged children and families.

The Guidance Center provides comprehensive mental health treatment to our community's most disadvantaged children and their families struggling with mental illness and abuse, leading them toward a positive and productive future. Our diverse team of dedicated, compassionate individuals annually leads more than 3,000 children and families struggling with mental health issues and abuse toward positiv

e and productive futures through comprehensive mental health treatment. Headquartered in Long Beach, The Guidance Center serves the communities of Compton, Greater Long Beach, Lynwood, Paramount, San Pedro, and Avalon on Catalina Island. We envision a community where all children have the help they need to be healthy and happy so we partner with local organizations to ensure that no child is without support – wherever they may be. You can find members of our team out in the community meeting with children on school campuses within the Long Beach, Los Angeles, Paramount and Lynwood Unified School Districts, collaborating with staff on patient care plans at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital, and counseling families at Century Villages at Cabrillo. As a founding member, The Guidance Center plays a key leadership role in the Long Beach Safety Net Collaborative. We’re also active members of the Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force. If you know a child who is depressed, has experienced trauma or struggling with mental health in any way, call us for support: 565-595-1159.

July is ! ♿🌈

Did you know? This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which is a law that protects the rights of people with disabilities.

At The Guidance Center, we recognize that mental health conditions can be invisible disabilities that deserve understanding, support, and dignity.

We stand with our community in celebrating the strength, resilience, and rights of people living with both visible and invisible disabilities. 💚

We’re excited to share a highlight from yesterday’s Long Beach Gives 2025 Summit! ❤️

Our Chief Development Officer, Lorraine Lyou, proudly represented The Guidance Center as a panelist for “Successful Campaign Fundraising.” The workshop also featured valuable insights from Liz Reinhardt with Children's Dental Health Clinic and Candice Wood with MemorialCare's Medical Center Foundation.

The TGC Development Team also had the opportunity to connect with local nonprofits to strategize and collaborate for this year’s Long Beach Gives campaign.

We’re feeling inspired and ready — don’t forget to save the date: September 18, 2025. Two months to go!! 🎉

“Therapy has helped me with my anxiety and depression... to value life and really come to terms with who I am. I've learned to not push my family and friends away. My therapist supported me with this journey in saving myself.” – Nitxi, TGC Client

About the Art:
Nitxi’s piece shows two hands reaching out, a symbol that even the smallest acts of kindness can change the world. Through therapy, Nitxi has learned to hold on to herself, her hope, and her future. 💚

At The Guidance Center, healing is a journey and no two paths look the same. With ongoing support, youth like Nitxi find the strength to keep going and see their worth.

When you join our Hope & Healing Club, you become part of that transformation. Your monthly gift provides life-saving care and reminds kids they are never alone. 🌟

Did you know that play can be a powerful tool for healing?

Therapeutic recreation uses art, music, movement, and play to help people of all ages build confidence, manage stress, and connect with others.

At The Guidance Center, we believe that creativity and recreation can unlock hope and healing in ways that sometimes words cannot. We are grateful to the therapists, families, and community members who encourage play and create moments of joy for our youth every day.

This , we honor not only the freedoms we’ve inherited but the courage it takes to keep advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

At The Guidance Center, we believe that hope is a powerful force. And when we stand together, it changes lives. Today and every day, we show up. For our clients. For our community. For each other.

This , we’re holding space for anyone navigating the strength it takes to navigate life after trauma.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) isn’t always visible, but it’s real. It can look like feeling on edge, shutting down, or reliving painful memories long after the trauma. 💭

💚 You are not broken. You are learning to feel safe again.
✨ Healing isn’t linear, but every step forward matters.
💬 Save these affirmations for tough days and share them with someone who might need this reminder, too.

“Before therapy, I was covered with the darkness of my insecurities and depression… now I’m beginning to see light.” – Rafael, TGC Client ✨

About the Art:
Rafael’s self-portrait is inspired by a character from a Spanish opera—often seen as a villain, but to him, she embodies strength, beauty, and ambition. Once unable to look in the mirror, Rafael now chooses to see his worth and hold his head high. 💚

At The Guidance Center, healing is a journey, and no two paths look the same. With ongoing support, youth like Rafael are learning to recognize their inner light.

When you join our Hope & Healing Club, you become part of that transformation. Your monthly gift helps light the way toward lasting change. 🌟

Summer can be a time for fun! ☀️
But big emotions don’t always take a break. Without the structure of school, routines become even more important. We’re sharing simple, grounding tools for caregivers to help children feel more balanced this season. 💚

We’re feeling extra grateful this week, thanks to Bragg Companies! 🙏 ✨

Just a couple of weeks ago, our staff had the honor of attending Bragg’s Annual Charity Invitational Golf Tournament. We’re thrilled to share that it raised $20,000 in support of our mission! 🎉

The Guidance Center is honored to be selected as a returning charity alongside Food Finders and the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. We're so grateful for your generous gift!
