Respiratory viruses are rampant right now and I thought I’d share my top 3 therapies for keeping our lungs strong and healthy!
I love to add these in with my immune boosting protocols for extra protection. My goal during cold and flu season is to always recommend therapies to shorten the duration and severity of the sickness 🦠

1. Vitamin D: has been shown in many studies to lower viral replication rates and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines which are the proteins that injure the lining of the lungs and can lead pneumonia. It’s important to talk to your doctor about the right dose.
2. NAC: this comes from the amino acid cysteine and is a powerful antioxidant that helps to make glutathione. It’s a mucolytic which means it reduces the viscosity as well as breaks down mucus. It also increases the lungs defense mechanisms by preventing lung injury and detoxing.
3. Quercitin: this is a flavonoid, actually found in certain fruits and vegetables! Citrus 🍊, kale 🥬 and onions 🧅 ! It protects the lungs by reducing oxidative stress. It has also been shown to reduce the ability of cells to be infected by a variety of viruses.
