Independence at Home IAH offers no-cost programs and services designed to assist older adults and their caregivers.

Independence at Home is a community service of SCAN, a senior-focused organization founded in Long Beach, California in 1977. The goal then was to create a program to provide seniors easy access to community-based services that would allow them to remain healthy and independent at home. Today, Independence at Home offers a range of programs to meet the needs of seniors, disabled adults and their c

Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA) — a landmark law that has helped millions of older adults age with dignity, health, and independence since 1965.

What is the OAA?
The Older Americans Act provides federal funding to states for essential community-based services like home-delivered meals, senior centers, caregiver support, transportation, and more. It empowers local agencies to tailor programs that meet the unique needs of older adults in their communities.

At Independence at Home (IAH), we’re proud to supplement and strengthen this network of care. IAH programs focused on older adults and their caregivers, work alongside aging service agencies to extend reach and ensure that older adults have access to the range of support they need to thrive.

Whether it’s helping someone navigate services, supporting caregivers, or providing personalized outreach, IAH is committed to the same goal: helping older adults live well and stay connected.
