How long should you practice Tai Chi each day? 🕰️

Dr. Hoover answers a recent question from our full Tai Chi Chuan instructional video:
👉 Should your eyes be closed?
👉 Can you benefit from just 20 minutes a day?

✅ Yes and yes — but with intention.
Eyes closed can help you feel the movement, but remember, Tai Chi is a martial art that trains awareness. Practice mostly with eyes open to stay grounded and safe.

As for time — even five minutes a day makes a difference. What matters most is consistency.

Practice daily, stay present, and the benefits will build over time.

Two common Tai Chi habits to refine:

1️⃣ When bringing the foot in, avoid uprooting yourself — stay grounded and bring the foot in, not up.

2️⃣ Don’t forget to pivot. Leaving the foot behind can strain the knees and weaken your power.

These are subtle, next-level details that keep your body safe and your movement powerful.

One of the most dangerous mistakes as a student (or future instructor) is staying quiet just to protect your ego. 🥋

I used to fear being called out by my teacher—thinking it meant I wasn’t good enough. In reality, those moments were the real lessons.

👉 Allow yourself to be vulnerable.
👉 Ask the “basic” questions.
👉 Remember: everyone who’s good now was once a beginner.

This is the time to refine, not to hide. There’s no judgment—only growth. 🌱
