💬 5 Tips to Start the Conversation With a Loved One About Substance Use

Talking to someone you care about can feel overwhelming—but connection is often the first step toward healing. Here are a few ways to open the door with compassion:

1️⃣ Choose the Right Time – Find a quiet, calm moment when you both have space to talk.

2️⃣ Speak With Love, Not Blame – Focus on concern, not accusations. “I’ve noticed you seem overwhelmed lately.”

3️⃣ Use “I” Statements – “I feel worried…” instead of “You’re messing up…”

4️⃣ Be Ready to Listen – Silence is okay. Let them process. Let them speak.

5️⃣ Offer Support, Not Solutions – “I’m here with you. We can look at help together when you’re ready.”

💙 These moments take courage, but you’re not alone. If you or your loved one need guidance, we’re here to help.

🎉 Exciting News from New Found Life!

We are proud to share that Jeremy Frank, a longtime leader at New Found Life, has been appointed to the Board of Directors at the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) — California’s largest organization for substance use disorder treatment professionals.

For over 19 years, Jeremy has worked alongside our team to help individuals and families heal through compassionate, long-term care. We are excited to see him bring that same commitment to the broader treatment field across California.

Please join us in congratulating Jeremy on this well-deserved honor!

Supporting a loved one through addiction is never easy — but you don’t have to do it alone.

Here are 5 things families can do when someone they love is struggling with substance use:

1. Start by listening, not fixing.

2. Learn about addiction — it’s a disease, not a moral failing.

3. Set boundaries that protect your wellbeing.

4. Avoid enabling behaviors — even when it’s hard.

5. Reach out for help — you’re not supposed to do this alone.

At New Found Life, we’ve been working with families for over 30 years. We’re here to guide you, too.

“Recovery means showing up for yourself—even on a holiday.” 💙

The 4th of July can be fun—but it can also be overwhelming, especially for those in early recovery.

Showing up for yourself might mean:
🔹 Skipping a party
🔹 Calling your sponsor
🔹 Saying “no” to old habits
🔹 Saying “yes” to your healing

Whatever it looks like for you today… it’s enough.
You’re doing the work—and we’re proud of you.

Healing doesn’t happen in a hurry. Recovery takes time—and that’s okay. 💙

At New Found Life, we’ve seen it for more than 30 years: real recovery doesn’t come from a quick fix—it comes from structure, support, and time to grow.

Whether you’re just starting the journey, walking with a loved one, or reflecting on your own progress, please remember: it’s okay to go slow. It’s okay to need help. You’re not alone.
