Nutritive herbs are filled with vitamins and minerals and are a great place to start when working with herbs. A daily nutritive tea gently nourishes and supports the whole body and is thought to help fill in any potential nutrient gaps. I like to think of nutritive herbs as a multivitamin in tea form! ⁣

In addition to general nourishment, the following are times when I recommend clients drink nutritive herbs. ⁣

- Post birth control⁣
- During and recovering from periods of stress & illness⁣
- Pregnancy & postpartum ⁣
- Acne & other skin issues⁣
- Hormone imbalances ⁣
- Preconception & fertility ⁣
- Broken bones ⁣

Nutritive herbs are best prepared as a long tea infusion. Stay tuned for my favorite nutritive tea recipe! ⁣

Red clover is contraindicated during pregnancy and for folks on blood thinning medications. As with any herb, consult your health practitioner before taking herbs if you are on any medication(s). ⁣

My peonies are blooming and it might be my favorite time of the year. Their beauty and scent is a true delight! I thought I’d take this wondrous moment to talk about peony’s use in herbal medicine. ⁣

Peony is one of my favorite herbs for gynecological health. It is often used in formulas for reproductive issues that are caused by hormonal imbalances–specifically issues that are marked by high androgens, high or low estrogen, elevated prolactin and low progesterone. It is an ovarian tonic and appears to address hormonal dysregulation in the ovaries. It also has been used to facilitate circulation and relieve stagnation in the uterus and the liver. Peony’s anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic actions can be used to alleviate discomforts in the body ranging from menstrual cramps, headaches, digestive discomfort and more. ⁣

Looking at the peony flower gives us insight into who it might be indicated for. Prior to flowering the peony’s many delicate flowers are compacted into a tight ball. When the time comes, the peony unfolds into a lush and open flower. I love peony for the person who is tense, rigid and holding it all together. This state of being can manifest in issues like pelvic stagnation, sluggish digestion, pain, irritability, etc. Peony calms the body and mind, offering a gentle reminder on how to open and release, allowing our vital force to flow. Its medicine is as beautiful as its flower.

Do you know the phases of your cycle? Learning the ins and outs of the menstrual cycle is an invaluable tool. It can be used as a vital sign to understand your overall health. Cycle awareness will help to determine if you are ovulating, the balance of estrogen and progesterone and identify other conditions or imbalances that might be at play.

Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is a method of monitoring fertility signs (basal body temperature, cervical fluid and cervical position) in order to determine fertile and infertile days of a cycle. It can be used for birth control, pregnancy achievement and to gain a deeper understanding of gynecological health. I love using FAM in my practice since it gives me and my clients a deeper understanding of their cycles and reproductive health. With that knowledge, I can make better herbal and nutritional recommendations. ⁣

This might feel like a lot of information to take in so let’s start by getting to know the phases of the menstrual cycle! The menstrual cycle is made up of two phases–follicular and luteal, that are marked by menstruation and ovulation. ⁣

Swipe right to learn more about each phase!⁣

Sleep troubles are no joke! Many of us deal with insomnia in pregnancy, postpartum and perimenopause. And you don’t have to be in one of those life stages to experience sleep issues–stress, anxiety, and depression can contribute to problems with sleep as well. Inadequate sleep contributes to a number of health issues and leaves us feeling awful—tired, unable to focus and take on daily tasks. ⁣

Herbs offer amazing support when you are trying to address the root of insomnia. They have a calming and sedative effect on the nervous system, relaxing the body and easing the transition into sleep. Some of these herbs are even thought to reduce night waking, promoting a deeper and more restful sleep. ⁣

The herbs above are some of my favorites to help relax the body and mind, creating the space for sleep. They have also been used for other conditions like anxiety, depression and stress. ⁣

Have you ever tried herbs for insomnia? What herbs did you try? Did they help? ⁣

*Some of these herbs are contraindicated in pregnancy, in other health conditions and with certain medications–consult with trusted resources or a qualified herbalist before taking.

We often prepare for baby with a baby shower and the endless time spent on registries and we prepare for birth with classes and books, but no one told us we should be prepared for becoming a mother and the changes we face postpartum. ⁣

Moms take birth classes, a breastfeeding class, a newborn care class… but what about preparing for postpartum? Moms deserve more. This is where the course, The Holistic Approach to Preparing for Postpartum, comes in! This course was created by two moms in health care on a mission to make a change for new moms in their postpartum journey. Nichelle Gurule, a Colorado-based Webster Certified Chiropractor and Katie Braswell, a Tennessee-based Nutritionist, are both deeply inspired by the need to support more moms. They both see clients and patients 1:1, but wanted to create a space where they could reach more women. And they brought in several different practitioners to share on a variety of topics and I’m thrilled to be a part of it! ⁣

The Holistic Approach for Preparing for Postpartum is for you if:⁣
- You are currently pregnant⁣
- You will be giving birth soon ⁣
- You just had your baby and are looking for ways to improve your health and happiness postpartum⁣
- You had a challenging postpartum experience your first time and want your next experience to be better⁣

By Enrolling Today you’re Getting Access to:⁣

-8 classes with packed information with slides and video for you to prepare for postpartum ⁣
- 8 printable guides of all the must know information from our classes⁣
