I was taking a walk around my building and saw someone hanging out in the grass without shoes on. My first thought was "that's kinda weird" then I thought "i want to do that!" So I did! Not every impulse we have should be followed but when it's something that our souls says feels good and fun and connects us to the earth and others maybe it's worth looking a little silly. 🙃

Casual Thursday at the Grief Summit!

I don't know why im becoming more drawn to grief work but I am. The more I learn the more I see the universality in grief, the healing that we begin to feel in grief and the love. More knowledge on grief, death and dying makes more less fear and more comfort and care.

If you are feeling stuck, finding yourself doing the same behaviors over and over again, draw out the cycle. Once we see what emotions, thoughts, and behaviors we are doing and what they lead to, we can begin to disrupt the cycle. Like an off ramp on a highway you don't want to be on anymore, we can go a different direction!

Drawing it out can feel really validating (yup that's me and what im doing) plus help the situation feel less out of our control. Try it!

Understanding Grief: Five Key Insights from a Grief Counselor You Should Know

I have resisted for a long time seeking out reviews because it feels, well, sort of gross! Alas though these are the times we live in, and in order to compete with bigger virtual therapy options reviews may be quite helpful. So, if you have something nice to say about myself or my business, I would greatly appreciate it if you left a review on google. (Obviously there is no confidentiality doing this so only do so if you are comfortable with that). Thank you so much!

New hair! Which got me thinking...

Hair has so many deeper meanings to it. It's about our identity, how we express ourselves, our culture, our found families. Hair is used to control others by subjugating what styles are allowed (black kiddos not being allowed to wear their hair in locs at school, indigenous kiddos forced to cut their hair etc). Hair is also a tool that people use to resist being controlled and reclaim hidden parts of themselves.

It's about messages of masculinity, femininity, sexual orientation and gender that we've been given all our lives.

We are given messages around sexuality and hair, told what is "attractive" that often feels more like objectification.

Hair and youth are often connected, what happens to our relationship with our hair and ourselves as we age and our hair greys and thins?

Certain cultures cut their hair when they are mourning the loss of a loved one.

As a society we spend a ridiculous amount of money on hair and hair care items! Why do we do that? Does it benefit us, or The Man?

Some people change their hairstyles after breakups, or when they are celebrating.

Me, I just wanted a change. Every year or two I get antsy for something new and my hair is an easy way to go about that! No matter what style I change to, it always feels empowering.

What's your relationship to your hair?
