MEET THE TRAILBLAZERS BEHIND IGHR COURSE 10: REPOSITORY RESEARCH – FROM WEBSITE TO DOORWAY, HOW TO FIND WHAT YOU NEED!

Genealogical research doesn’t stop when the digital trail runs cold; it gets smarter. That’s the mindset behind IGHR’s newest course offering, designed to equip 21st-century genealogists with the tools to find, access, and fully use library, archive, and museum collections, —whether from across the street or across the country.

Leading the way is Cyndi Ingle, creator of the legendary Cyndi’s List, and a pioneer in making genealogy accessible, organized, and discoverable. With her unmatched understanding of repositories, research systems, and online gateways, Cyndi brings clarity and strategy to a part of genealogy many overlook, —or underestimate.

She’s joined by a hand-selected team of instructors who have spent their careers helping genealogists get past digital dead ends and through archival doors.

COURSE 10 FACULTY:
👉 Cyndi Ingle – Course Coordinator, founder of Cyndi’s List, and a global authority on online genealogy tools and repository access
👉 Amy E. K. Arner, CG® – Expert in manuscript collections, university archives, and underused finding aids
👉 Kimberly T. Powell, AG® – Known for making research approachable, methodical, and efficient, —online and in person
👉 Patricia Walls Stamm, CG® (Ret.) – A retired research educator with decades of archival experience and practical wisdom
👉 Paula Stuart-Warren, CG®, FMGS, FUGA – Renowned instructor and guide for finding gems in state archives, tribal records, and library systems
👉 Cari A. Taplin, CG® – Instructor with a focus on digital workflows, correspondence, and documentation
👉 Ari Wilkins, BA, FTxSGS – Powerhouse researcher known for her work with African American collections and underutilized archives

THE UNIQUE COURSE FORMAT & 6-WEEK SCHEDULE:

👉 Classes begin THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2025
👉 Meets once a week on THURSDAYS through OCTOBER 16, 2025
👉 Includes three expert-led lectures each day + a live working session for applying your new skills, asking questions, and connecting with instructors

WHY THIS COURSE MATTERS:
Researchers today are navigating more archives from afar than ever before; and this team is here to make sure you’re not just clicking around aimlessly but strategically unlocking access to hidden records and institutional knowledge.

YOU'LL FINISH WITH:

👉 A system for finding and working with repositories online
👉 Confidence to reach out to archivists, plan research visits, and request materials
👉 A skillset that expands your reach far beyond what the search box can show

I use Gopher Records a lot! Fantastic service!

At Gopher Records, we are hugely gratified by the growing popularity of our FREE research web site, BetterSoldiersAndSailors.com.

Thousands of Civil War researchers have discovered the many advantages of BSS over the "Soldiers and Sailors" site provided by the National Park Service. Our site uses the very same databases of soldiers, sailors, and POWs but it adds modern search features (like phonetic searches, wildcards, and automatic handling of abbreviated names) and it includes other databases that are not found on the NPS site.

Perhaps best of all, you can search each database separately but - unlike the NPS site - the default is to search ALL of the databases at the same time. So in addition to finding their Civil War ancestor, many researchers have been surprised to discover that he is among nearly 200,000 Court Martial case files or more than 700,000 Civil War burials in 16,000+ cemeteries around the country.

Please tell your researcher friends and relevant Civil War groups about BetterSoldiersAndSailors.com.
