📣 PSA: Hearing loss isn’t just from aging… Millennials and Gen Z are at risk, too!
Recent studies reveal a concerning trend: younger adults are experiencing hearing loss at higher rates than previous generations. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 12% of adults aged 18–39 report difficulty following conversations amid background noise, and approximately 6% experience tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
But why is this…
🎧 Noise Exposure: Prolonged exposure to loud sounds, especially through personal audio devices at high volumes, is a leading cause. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 1 billion young adults are at risk of permanent, avoidable hearing loss due to unsafe listening practices.
🎶 Recreational Activities: Attending concerts, clubs, and using power tools without proper ear protection can also contribute to hearing damage.
What can YOU do to help prevent this?
⬇️ Volume Control: Keep personal audio devices at safe volume levels.
🎧 Use Protection: Wear earplugs or noise-canceling headphones in loud environments.
👂 Regular Check-ups: Schedule hearing evaluations to monitor your hearing health.
Hearing loss can be painless and permanent, BUT preventable. Taking proactive steps now can safeguard your hearing for the future!

“I live alone, so I don’t really need to hear much.”
I hear this a lot, and it’s one of the biggest myths about living with hearing loss.
Sure, when you’re enjoying quiet time at home, maybe reading the newspaper or watching TV, it might feel easier to tune out the world. But think about this:
🔊 What if your water heater starts making strange noises?
🔊 What if someone’s trying to open your garage door?
🔊 What if you miss important sounds that keep you safe and aware?
Hearing isn’t just about conversations, it’s about safety and staying connected to your environment. Plus, untreated hearing loss can quietly pull you inward, making social interaction feel harder and less appealing over time.
If you live alone, even basic hearing technology can make a huge difference in your quality of life. You deserve to feel safe, aware, and connected (no matter who’s in the room).
If this sounds like you, I’m here to help. Let’s talk about options that fit your needs!

We’re here for you — every step, every sound, every story.

Sometimes, patients say they don’t like their hearing aids, but more often than not, the issue isn’t the devices themselves.
Hearing loss impacts more than just your ears; it affects your emotions, your daily life, and often involves a process of adjustment and even grief.
Most people grieve their hearing loss, just like any loss. Everyone’s journey is different, and some never fully accept it. So when someone says their hearing aids aren’t working for them, I gently remind them there are many reasons why (beyond just the devices themselves):
1️⃣ How severe their hearing loss is
2️⃣ How long they waited before seeking professional help
3️⃣ The cause of their hearing loss
4️⃣ Who fitted their hearing aids and how
5️⃣ Whether they’ve had time to grieve and accept their hearing loss
As an audiologist, I’m here not just to fit devices, but to guide you through those challenges with honest conversations, personalized care, and a lot of empathy. Together, we can find a way forward that feels right for you.✨

AARP, America’s largest non-profit organization reaching 150+ million retired people monthly, has published an in-depth feature on Lenire, the first and only FDA Approved tinnitus treatment device.

Tinnitus disproportionately impacts people of retired age. AARP's feature examines tinnitus with an inspiring story of a tinnitus patient who got relief using Lenire.

After struggling with the persistent buzzing of tinnitus for 12-years, Clara Flores thought she "would never hear silence again, like the moment of calm when your kids fall asleep." Then she used Lenire to treat her tinnitus.

👂 To say most people are surprised when I diagnose them with hearing loss is an understatement.
🧠 One reason? Hearing loss often sneaks up on you… it’s slow and sneaky, so you adapt to each tiny change without even noticing. 🙉
As C.S. Lewis said, “It’s funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different.” That’s exactly how hearing loss can feel! What’s wild is how quickly the brain gets used to hearing loss.
If you know someone who might be missing out on the sounds around them, gently let them know. Most of my patients come in because a loved one noticed something first. 🤗
⌛ Hearing well is too important to let it slip away quietly.

National Wellness Month: Hearing Edition

🎧 Are both my ears affected equally?

Great question — and the answer is: Not always.
Many people experience asymmetrical hearing loss, where one ear hears better than the other. This can be caused by things like:
• Noise exposure
• Ear infections
• Earwax buildup
• Underlying medical conditions

Even a small difference between ears can affect how you localize sound, understand speech in noise, or stay balanced.

💡 Your ears are a team — if one struggles, the other has to work harder.

That’s why regular hearing checks are a vital part of your overall wellness routine. Make an appointment at Longmont Hearing & Tinnitus Center today by calling (303) 651-1178 .
