Spring is finally here, bringing sunshine, fresh air, and all the little sounds that make the season so special—birds chirping, leaves rustling, and longer days to enjoy it all. 🌞🐦

We’re celebrating with this sweet moment—me, my husband and my pup soaking up the sunshine after he just finished his two-week training program! (BIG thank you to Bernadette and the whole team at !)🐾💛 It’s the perfect reminder to get outside, enjoy the season, and take in all the sounds around you.

An appointment that measures your ear canal volume can be one of those “small steps” that make a huge difference in how hearing aids actually sound.

Let’s break it down: 👇

We start by reviewing your hearing test and your real-life goals (restaurants, TV, church, family gatherings).

Then I place a tiny probe microphone in your ear canal, and we play speech-like sounds to measure what your hearing aids are actually delivering inside your ear. 🦻 From there, I adjust the settings until they match evidence-based target levels, and we fine-tune based on what you notice.

The best part? The wins are often immediate:

✅ clearer speech without cranking volume
✅ less “sharp” or “off” sound
✅ more balanced hearing between ears

⚠️ Not all cleaners are hearing-aid safe.

Alcohol-based wipes may be great for hands and surfaces, but they can damage the outer materials and internal components of hearing aids. Instead, use products specifically designed for hearing devices or ask us about safe, non-alcohol options.

When it comes to cleaning, gentle and hearing-aid–approved is best. 👂✨

🦔👂 Did you know hedgehogs can hear sounds we can’t?

Scientists recently discovered that European hedgehogs can hear sounds up to 85 kHz, which is far higher than the human hearing range (about 20 kHz). This means hedgehogs may be communicating with each other using ultrasonic sounds that humans simply can’t detect!

Researchers believe this discovery could help protect these animals, which are declining in parts of Europe. By understanding their hearing range, scientists may be able to develop special sound repellents that gently steer hedgehogs away from dangers like cars, lawnmowers, and other machines—without bothering people or pets.

We love learning about how different ears work across the animal kingdom. Hearing is an incredible sense, and every species experiences sound a little differently! 🧠🔊

👂 One small change can make a big difference in understanding.

When speaking to someone with hearing loss, try to:

💬 Get their attention first
💬 Face them directly
💬 Speak clearly (not louder)

Visual cues like facial expressions and lip movements play a huge role in understanding speech, even for people wearing hearing aids. Good communication isn’t about repeating yourself… it’s about connecting.

The first week with hearing aids can feel strange, even when everything is going well.

For some types of hearing loss, this comment is very common: “My own voice sounds weird. It is too loud and kind of echoey.” They were worried something was wrong.

It reminds me of getting used to new glasses. 👓 At first, everything feels off, and then your brain settles in, and it starts to feel normal.

So we checked the fit, reviewed what causes that sensation, and made the right adjustments. Some of it is your brain adapting to sound again, and some of it is settings and comfort tweaks that we can dial in at follow-ups.

The win was that their voice started to sound normal again, comfort improved, and they felt confident sticking with the process!

A quick daily clean can make a big difference. 🧼

Wiping your hearing aids with a soft, dry cloth at the end of each day helps remove oils, moisture, and debris that can affect sound quality. Keeping microphone ports and wax traps clear allows your devices to work the way they’re meant to, consistently and clearly.

Think of it like brushing your teeth: a little daily care goes a long way. 👂✨
