When it comes to discussing Interstitial Cystitis, there is much confusion. The name itself might lead us to believe that it’s inflammation of the bladder lining; however, the bladder lining is implicated in only about 10% of cases. 🤯
Just like with Endometriosis, the name doesn’t completely fit the disease. Endometriosis is not endometrium; it doesn’t come from the uterus. The name Interstitial Cystitis might not be the best description of the disease, which is why the name change to Bladder Pain Syndrome seems more appropriate.
Even more confusing is how these two conditions often hang out together or are misdiagnosed for the other, hence the name “The Evil Twins”.
Sound interesting?
We wrote a blog post about this, so if you’ve been diagnosed with IC or you’ve wondered if you have it because you have a history of chronic bladder pain, frequency, urgency, and you haven’t gotten any help, go to our website blog page and read on, or share it with someone who may need to read it.
