"The process of becoming a mother, which anthropologists call “matrescence,” has been largely unexplored in the medical community. Instead of focusing on the woman’s identity transition, more research is focused on how the baby turns out. But a woman’s story, in addition to how her psychology impacts her parenting, is important to examine, too."

Becoming a mother is one of the most significant physical and psychological changes a woman will ever experience.

Hello Everyone,

I am very excited to announce a new service/speciality that I am offering in my private practice/at Mindful Awakening Counseling & Wellness. I am now trained as an advocate to increase awareness and prevention of perinatal mood and anxiety symptoms and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD), and develop awareness of the importance of seeking professional and social support during this time. Along with being an advocate, I am now a provider/therapist working with the perinatal population supporting women, men, and families navigate and heal from symptoms resulting from pregnancy through the first year after giving birth.

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) include: depression, bipolar, anxiety and/or generalized anxiety disorder, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychosis. The perinatal period is the entire time frame from pregnancy through the first year after giving birth.

For more information please visit my website at: https://www.staceymbramley.com/perinatal-postpartum-therapy

I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, and PMAD. My orientation is integrative, holistic, and incorporates trauma focused care, body-based/somatic interventions, relational attention, transpersonal concepts, neurobiological understanding, attachment based, and yoga therapy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Sending love

-Transition into September-
Fall is my favorite season. The weather becomes cooler, my pace of life shifts, I give myself more permission to receive, give, and yield, and I love pumpkins, crunchy leaves, and the smell of fall. What's September and the Fall season for you?

Take a vacation. Give yourself time to rest!

"It turns out that when we take some time off to relax, genes that are normally needed for dealing with stress, injury and wound-healing are temporarily decreased. These stress-related genes, like MME and FOXO3, are known to have an antidepressant effect when their levels decrease, which can be achieved even with a one-week rest."

Harvard research reveals how going on vacation, especially if you meditate while you're on vacation, restores your body and mind on a genetic level.

Find the spaces and places that allow time to stand still, the spaces that feel safe enough, the places where the only focus is the breath, and you keep returning, returning to yourself to peel away the layers that have built up over the years and created barriers. Barriers that prevent us from finding our true self.
Peel away the layers to reveal your mind-body-heart connection đź’•it's there, we have to do the work to find it

A fellow therapist, Grace Ballard, wrote this blog. I really enjoyed this perspective and wanted to share. The Buddhist concept/teaching of first and seconds darts is explained to beautifully demonstrate acceptance. We do not always have to be 'happy.' Everyone experiences other emotions- anxiety, fear, anger, sadness, joy. What would it be like to welcome "unpleasant" emotions? How would your world and experiences shift? We are forever changing and evolving beings!

We hear a lot of advice about how to be happy, but maybe chasing happiness can actually cause harm. Is misery the new happiness?
