Because our patients share their injury stories with us everyday, I thought I'd share a little of my own, especially to my current patients who all wished me luck recently. More than 2 years ago I sustained an ACL, MCL and medial menisucs injury. I underwent successful surgery and began my own rehab program. Unfortunately I developed excessive arthrofibrosis and required a second surgery which took place almost 1 yr ago. After the second surgey I immediately felt better and for about 4 months I was on a full road to recovery. I was finally thinking about returning to soccer again! Unfortunately my knee and the soccer gods had other plans. Because of the medial menisectomy and the varus nature of my knee (bowlegged) I have begun to wear down pretty aggressively on the medial femoral condyle and developed a cartilage defect/flap that was causing some significant catching during normal walking. This process may not be over, but for now I am happy to report that less than 24hrs ago I underwent a successful chondroplasty/debridement of the chondral flap, and staging procedure of what looks like will soon require a high tibial osteotomy (HTO) to correct the varus alignment of knee and better distribute force across both medial AND lateral components of knee. I look forward to returning to work in the next 3-4 days where I can continue to relate with, and help all my patients achieve their goals. Lets do this together!
