I feel lucky that most of my career, as a psychotherapist, I have worked in Boulder county Colorado where we progressively try and break the standards that this article (link below) speaks about.
I have not agreed with a good number of practices, in most of the agencies I’ve worked in, but this, I know, has not been one of them. Humans have a constellation of things they struggle with and addiction is only one facet of those things-but it is not who they are. If you have someone you love in recovery make sure their helpers know what the bio-psycho-social model is - and keep trying to love them. 💚
