Trees like human life are vulnerable and fallible. Open to disease, wind, and pests. They are also tremendously strong. Withstanding endless storms, seasons, and even replanting. How is this possible? A complex and intricate root system acts like a tether hidden beneath the earth. An underground anchor for growth. A tree survives not by being immobile, but by bending, shifting, and moving with the storm. Spread your roots and move with me.

As the days grow shorter, the office grows cozier and I’m noticing myself and those I work with turning inwards. Perhaps this time of year is for reflection, holding dear things close, and becoming friends with the parts of ourselves that spend more time in the dark.

Thinking about all of you who have experienced this uniquely painful form of loss. For those of you who have felt it in your bodies, I am sending tenderness for the enormity of pressure it is to carry a pregnancy and birth a baby. I'm sending thoughts of acceptance for the times our bodies don't do what we so desperately want them to do yet are able to heal, recover, and go on to do so many amazing things. For those of you who haven't felt it in your bodies, but in your hearts, I'm sending gratitude for your patience and love as you try to connect and support through your own pain.
