Sage Birth & Wellness Collective

Sage Birth & Wellness Collective Sage Birth & Wellness Collective is a team of birth professionals dedicated to supporting women throughout their journey from pregnancy through postpartum.

While supporting each other, we support a community of women and their families. Sage Birth & Wellness Collective was created by Amy Meilen, a physical therapist, birth and postpartum doula, out of a desire to bring quality care providers together to better serve the community of women in our area. The continuum of care provided from pre-conception through pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum is something many group practices lack. Amy dreamed of a full-spectrum group of practitioners to provide supportive care to mamas and their families throughout this journey. A ‘one stop shopping’ guide, so to speak, where mamas could find any service providers they’re looking for – at any stage of their journey. Amy also wanted a group of practitioners who had a common philosophy around birth and postpartum, as well as overall women’s wellness. In early 2017, Amy and others in the Lyons, Longmont and Boulder Birth community began to imagine a group of practitioners working together, and in February 2017 Sage Birth & Wellness Collective was born. Sage Birth & Wellness Collective practitioners believe in the power and strength of birthing bodies to conceive, bear and give birth to healthy babies. Our goals is to support birthing people in all ways possible to achieve the pregnancy, birth and transition to parenthood that they imagine. We work closely with area midwives and OB/GYN offices to ensure that birthing people in all stages of pregnancy and postpartum are aware of services that could aid and assist them to have a healthier pregnancy, an easier birth, and a “4th trimester” that is rich with information on nutrition, ceremony and relishing the role of parenting—whether it is your first child or you’re continuing to build your family. Sage Birth & Wellness Collective was conceived from a desire to build a tribe of like minded practitioners who would support one another through referrals, educate each other in monthly meetings, provide back-up services for birth and postpartum clients, and be doulas to EACH OTHER. Each of the individuals in Sage Birth & Wellness Collective meets these criteria. We love and support each other, encourage our individual businesses and provide essential educational, emotional and physical support to one another each time we meet. In addition to our individual services, our goal is to provide ongoing education and service to our community through free talks, support groups, and education series. When Birthing people are healthy and well, so too are their families. When families are healthy and well, so too then is the community. And when communities are healthy and well, so too then is Mother Earth.

For my birthday this year, we are asking folks to contribute to PJ Meilen's legacy project at TFF. I believe every child deserves to live his/her/their truth and to have the ability to seek out and obtain medical care toward the same. My kid was happy, well adjusted, thriving and so confident. We miss him Every. Damn. Day and his spirit lives on in our memory. To have the opportunity to help kids who aren't as lucky is a privilege. He would love it.

Birthday

11 of them until now
Tomorrow, it will be 12.

We have celebrated with you since you were born.
At one, your naming ceremony
Two, three, four…with minions, lions and SpongeBob and your siblings holding and loving you.

Some we celebrated with your brother from another mother.
Trips to the river and laser tag, Water world and the trampoline park.
Last year-it feels like yesterday-your posse at Dave & Busters
Doing what pre teens do--
Playing games, laughing uncontrollably, eating pizza and wings.

Tomorrow, you will be honored, but it’s not a celebration
It’s a birthday without a boy
A marking of time, without your cheeks to kiss,
Your hair to tousle
Your sleepy face in the morning to sing to.

Tomorrow, I can tell you your birth story for the 12th time, but will you hear it?
I will feel the pains of labor, somehow intensified.
This year a labor in itself.
An interminable birth that doesn’t bring a baby but instead births me into a new existence.

Your mom still, and again, but more too.

One that holds all of those years, the love, silliness, your smile and laughter, your intensity and your truths….and the truth of this new reality.
You are gone to this world.

Happy 12th birthday, my beautiful boy.

-Amy Meilen
