One simple way to make deep tissue massage more effective is hydrotherapy using a hydroculator heat pack. After flipping to prone, a protective towel layer is placed on the back to keep the heat safe and comfortable. Next a clay heat pack, heated to about 155 degrees, is applied and covered. While the heat penetrates for about 20 to 30 minutes, I work the glutes, hamstrings, and lower legs. The heat helps increase circulation and soften the tissue so when the pack comes off, the back is much more ready for deeper therapeutic work.
