Meet Grunt 🐾
This handsome (and VERY happy) boy came to see us this weekend after a run-in with a snake 🐍… and let’s just say, Grunt handled it like a champ!
Snakebites in dogs can escalate quickly and aren’t something to “wait and see” on. Symptoms can include:
• Swelling (often sudden and painful)
• Bruising or bleeding
• Lethargy or weakness
• Changes in breathing or heart rate
Grunt came in with swelling and needed quick intervention. After bloodwork, antivenin, and a plasma transfusion, he responded beautifully and got to head home to his family ❤️
A few quick takeaways for our East Texas crew:
• If you suspect a snakebite, don’t wait, come in immediately
• Try to keep your pet calm and limit movement
• Do NOT try to suck out venom (yes, people still ask 😅)
• Don’t apply a tourniquet
Time matters more than anything with these cases.
Also worth noting… Grunt might officially be the happiest snakebite patient we’ve ever seen. Tail wagging, loving life, zero complaints. 10/10 attitude.
We’re so glad you’re feeling better, buddy 🖤
