Tax Day is just around the corner, and it's crucial to steer clear of common mistakes that could cost you money.

Here are five pitfalls to watch out for:
Filing Status Errors: Choosing the wrong filing status can lead to higher taxes or smaller refunds. Life changes like marriage or divorce can complicate this decision, so use the IRS online tool to help clarify your status.

Missing Deductions and Credits: Don’t leave money on the table! Take the time to research all the deductions and credits available to you, as failing to claim them can result in a higher tax bill.

Assuming Last Year’s Return is Accurate: Tax laws can change, so don’t rely solely on last year's return. Reassess your situation to ensure you maximize your benefits.

Payment Deadlines: Remember, even if you file for an extension, your payment is still due by April 15. Pay what you can to minimize penalties.

Double-Check Your Information: Ensure your banking details are correct for direct deposits or payments, as mistakes can lead to delays or rejected payments.

Stay informed and file accurately to avoid unnecessary stress and expenses!

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, a reminder that brain health matters at every age! 🧠

Memory changes can be related to injury, aging, or cognitive conditions. If you or a loved one are noticing differences, early conversations with a healthcare provider can provide clarity, guidance, and peace of mind.

Occasional forgetfulness can be normal. But it may be time to speak with a doctor if you notice:
• Repeating the same questions frequently
• Getting lost in familiar places
• Noticeable changes in mood or personality
• Memory loss that disrupts daily life

At Comfort Keepers, we support families navigating memory changes with compassionate
in-home care and meaningful daily routines that help seniors stay safe, engaged, and
connected. 💙

🚨 Are we leaving our seniors behind in the digital age? 🚨

Many older adults are finding themselves locked out of essential online services due to complicated two-factor authentication (2FA) systems. While younger users might breeze through these security measures in just 10 minutes, seniors can take up to 52 minutes—even with assistance!

This disparity highlights a significant issue: security measures designed to protect often exclude those who need it the most. A recent study shows that traditional 2FA methods, like SMS and physical code generators, are much more user-friendly for seniors.

Yet, tech companies continue to push complex app-based solutions, leaving families to step in as unpaid tech support. We must advocate for more inclusive security designs that prioritize usability without compromising safety.

Seniors deserve systems that empower them, not trap them.

Let’s push for change!

🚨 Exciting news in Alzheimer's research!

Scientists from Washington University School of Medicine have developed a groundbreaking blood test that can predict the onset of Alzheimer's symptoms up to four years in advance.

This innovative approach focuses on measuring p tau217, a protein in the blood, making it a more accessible and cost-effective alternative to traditional diagnostic methods like brain scans.

With over 7 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer's and the projected care costs soaring to nearly $400 billion by 2025, this advancement could be pivotal. By identifying individuals at risk, researchers can design more efficient clinical trials and potentially implement early intervention strategies.

The goal is clear: empower patients and their healthcare providers with knowledge to plan ahead. As research continues, this tool could change the landscape of Alzheimer's care and prevention.

Movement Matters - At Any Age

A new study found something powerful: regular physical activity may help lower the risk of death from several types of cancer - even for people who were not active before their diagnosis.

For older adults and cancer survivors, this is encouraging news. The goal is not intense workouts. The goal is simply safe, consistent movement.

Simple, senior-friendly ways to begin:

● Start slow - even a few minutes counts
● Try short “micro-walks” (5 minutes at a time)
● Work toward about 150 minutes of light-to-moderate activity per week
● Add light strength exercises when able
● Stay hydrated and listen to your body
● Choose activities you enjoy - walking, stretching, gentle yoga, dancing

Research continues to show it is never too late to benefit from movement. Even small increases in activity were linked to better outcomes.

If you or a loved one are recovering from illness or cancer, talk with a doctor or therapist before starting, then build gradually and safely.

Small steps. Real impact. Better quality of life. 💙

This post is based on reporting by Healthline covering a large meta-analysis published in JAMA Network Open examining the relationship between physical activity and cancer survival outcomes.

With Alzheimer’s and dementia, love is still there, it may just be
communicated in new ways.💜

Simple, nonverbal expressions of affection, like gentle touch, eye
contact, tone of voice, and presence, can help seniors feel safe,
valued, and understood.

At Comfort Keepers, our caregivers are trained to recognize and
respond to these cues with patience, compassion, and dignity. If your
loved one is living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, you don’t have to
navigate it alone. 🏡

🌟 Exciting news for healthy aging!

Just 5 weeks of brain training may protect against dementia for 20 years💡

A recent study funded by the National Institutes of Heath NIH) reveals that just five weeks of brain training can significantly reduce the risk of dementia for up to 20 years. This innovative program, known as speed of processing training, helps older adults quickly identify visual details and manage complex tasks more efficiently.

Participants who engaged in this training, along with follow-up sessions, demonstrated a 25% lower incidence of dementia compared to those who did not participate. This research highlights the potential of simple, non-drug interventions to make a lasting impact on cognitive health.

As we strive for better brain health, incorporating such cognitive training into our routines could be a game changer. 🧠💪

Caregiver Support Can Change Alzheimer’s Outcomes 🏆

New research is confirming something many families and care professionals see every day: when caregivers receive proper training, guidance, and support, people living with Alzheimer’s often experience better overall outcomes — sometimes even beyond medication alone.

Why does this matter? Because well-supported caregivers are less overwhelmed, more consistent, and better equipped to manage daily care. That leads to improved stability, safety, and quality of life for the person living with dementia — and less stress for the entire family.

Caregiving is hard, and no one should have to do it alone. The right support can make a meaningful difference for both the caregiver and the person receiving care.

Based on research published in a journal of the Alzheimer’s Association (study link in comments).
