All midwives are members of the East Texas Midwives Association. This means being a part of a group that focuses on safe, evidence-based standards. It means having a group of community midwives that will be there to back up if necessary. We have a goal of two trained professionals at your birth. That means two midwives, a midwife and a trained assistant. We want a body for each person that may need a little extra care, because your safety is important. Not all midwives are Embrace Midwives. We have standing orders to give you IVs and medications for hemorrhage for your safety if necessary. There is a common misconception that the blood from the baby will flow back into the placenta, especially if the baby is higher than the placenta. This baby was immediately placed on the mother's chest higher than the placenta.
The blood pulsed through the umbilical cord nourishing the baby with oxygen until it emptied and collapsed becoming cold and flat. The beautiful blue spiral was now gone and no blood is spilling back.
Delayed cord clamping increases oxygen flow and improves transitional period, improves iron stores for up to 6 months, and supports overall health.
