Meet Catharine Griffin, LPC!

She grew up in a rural area just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. She attended North Georgia University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. Her love for counseling grew in the classroom environment where she realized that families and children were in need of resources, tools and support to navigate life’s challenges and needs outside of the classroom. In 2012, she earned a Masters of Arts degree in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary.

She has counseling experience in the elementary school setting, a crisis pregnancy resource center, and finally at Hope Road counseling.

She enjoys working with children, adolescents, individuals, families and couples with experience navigating anxiety, depression, grief, su***de prevention, divorce, infidelity, sexual betrayal, third culture kids, and a host of challenges that people face personally and in relationships.

Catharine also enjoys playing with her children, backyard farming, writing, teaching and studying the Bible, mentoring college students, and coordinating ministry and growth opportunities for women in her church. When she is not in the office, she enjoys being outside with her husband and three boys.

On this election eve, God has not given you a spirit of fear

How many times a day are we guided by fear? Sometimes our fears are very present, in the form of real threats. We often live in anticipation surrounding needs we have like a cure from an illness for ourselves or a precious loved one; or perhaps looming financial needs, or on the eve of election, the fear that somehow the future of our country is based solely on who we select as our leader. This "spirit of fear" will well up in us and suddenly we find ourselves making decisions out of fear rather than out of places of peace and trust.

Paul, during his time of persecution, urged the followers of Jesus not to live in fear even as they knew Paul was suffering in prison because of his faith and others had died because of their faith in Jesus. Following Jesus was dangerous.

"...for God gave us not a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control."

In other words, God imparts many things to us- His power, the ability to love and control ourselves, but He does not gift us fear. That is not part of his design for our lives.

Whether we stand in the face of real threats or we are at the mercy of our thoughts and imagination, one thing is clear, God’s design is not fear but peace.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7).”

Will you allow the Lord to keep watch over you and protect you from your fears? Our first step in trusting the Lord may simply be to bring him our anxious thoughts and stand ready to receive his peace.

It will be this peace, that often doesn’t follow the rules, that will allow us to wake up on Wednesday morning with the ability to face whatever the day holds, and hopefully even spread some love.

Arturo is bi-lingual. What a great resource for our community!

Meet Arturo Morales, LPC!

Mexico City native Arturo Morales is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. He has been practicing at Community HealthCore since 2015, the local mental health authority in Gregg County. Arturo is also an adjunct professor at LeTourneau University. Arturo holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Finance from Universidad Panamericana (Mexico City, Mexico), a Master of Arts in Spanish Literature from Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS), and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from LeTourneau University (Longview, TX).

Arturo is actively involved in the thriving church he and his wife Myra founded in 2006, Iglesia Nueva Vida Asamblea de Dios.

Arturo and Myra have been married almost 20 years, and have three children. He enjoys traveling, leading worship, playing the piano, soccer and watching a good action movie with the family.

“When I began the Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, I was naive and arrogant in thinking I was being prepared to help people. Soon after I began the academic program, God used not only the rigorous training from my professors and colleagues, but also my own experiences to bring me to a place of humility, where I have realized (and am still realizing) my ever-present need of dependency of God’s grace to go through the broken and painful areas of my life. Such a realization has redefined my vision for counseling, compelling me to be a hope bearer and catalyst for change while walking alongside those that are hurting, broken-hearted, confused and desperate.”
