Week in Review at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Longview.

It was another meaningful week of connection, collaboration, and community engagement across East Texas.

We had the opportunity to meet with newly elected Upshur County District Attorney Barry Wallace and the American Legion to begin conversations about establishing a Veteran Jail Diversion Program. This initiative has the potential to connect veterans in the justice system with the mental health services and support they deserve.

We were also proud to celebrate Social Work Month alongside our friends at Longview Regional, recognizing the incredible dedication social workers bring to patients, families, and communities every single day.

Our team continued building relationships throughout the region by delivering a little East Texas hospitality with some Tennessee sweet bread to Cameron Clinic of Longview, and by spending time visiting our friends at Marshall Manor Nursing & Rehab.

Collaboration remains key to everything we do, and we were grateful to connect with the East Texas Marketing Group to share ideas and strengthen partnerships that help us reach more people in need of mental health care.

We wrapped up the week back home at Oceans Healthcare – Longview, celebrating Social Work Month with our own incredible social workers. We are truly proud of the compassionate work they do every day to support our patients, their families, and the communities we serve across East Texas.

Together, we remain committed to strengthening mental health care and supporting those who need it most.

March is Social Work Month, and at Oceans Behavioral Hospital - Longview we are proud to recognize the incredible impact our social workers make every single day.

Our social workers play a vital role in the healing journey of our patients. They advocate, support, and guide individuals and families through some of life’s most difficult moments. From coordinating care and connecting patients with community resources to providing emotional support and helping plan for successful transitions after treatment, their dedication helps ensure every patient receives compassionate, comprehensive care.

Their work extends far beyond our hospital walls. By building relationships with families, community partners, and healthcare providers throughout East Texas, our social workers help strengthen the support systems that allow patients to continue thriving long after discharge.

We are truly grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and commitment our social workers bring to the patients and communities we serve every day. Thank you for being such an essential part of the Oceans team and for the difference you make in so many lives.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital - Longview - Week in Review

It’s been a busy and meaningful week for our team at Oceans Behavioral Hospital - Longview as we continued working alongside our community to support mental health and wellness.

We were honored to attend The City of Longview of Longview Council meeting, where the City of Longview received the Veteran Friendly Community designation from East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG), making Longview only the third community in East Texas to earn this recognition. As an organization that proudly supports veterans, it was a great moment to see our community recognized for its commitment to those who served.

Our team also spent time connecting with families at Parent Night at Forest Park Middle School, where we spoke with parents and students about the importance of mental health wellness and how to seek support when it’s needed.

We were also proud to sponsor the health fair at Texas State Technical College in nearby Marshall. We value our partnership with TSTC and were grateful for the opportunity to meet with students and faculty and share how our team can provide mental health support for those who may need it.

Internally, we held our monthly Town Hall meetings where our leadership team and staff come together to discuss outcomes, strategies, and organizational updates. We were grateful to hear a presentation from Dr. Evan Dolive, Executive Director of the Greater Longview United Way, who shared valuable insight about the work being done across our community. Our Director of Nursing Erica went on a class tour where she learned about different organizations in our community and the impact they are making in our communities, as she is currently in Leadership Longview.

We wrapped up the week by recognizing Vonni, our Activity Therapist, as Employee of the Month. Her creativity and dedication bring so much engagement, joy, and connection to our patients each day, and we are grateful for the impact she makes.

Thank you to our team and our community partners for helping us continue the mission of supporting mental health across East Texas.

We are proud to recognize Vonni, our Activity Therapist, as our February Employee of the Month!

Vonni truly goes above and beyond for our patients every single day. Her creativity and passion for what she does shines through in the activities and groups she leads. It is incredible to see how engaged our patients become during her sessions. She has a special ability to bring people together, encourage participation, and create an environment where patients feel comfortable, supported, and involved.

One of the things that stands out most is how she taps into our patients’ competitive spirit. Many of them love a good challenge, and Vonni has found a way to turn that into something fun and therapeutic. The laughter, teamwork, and excitement that comes out of her groups brings so much joy to our patients and truly brightens their day.

Vonni’s dedication, creativity, and heart for our patients make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve. We are incredibly grateful to have her on our team.

Congratulations, Vonni, and thank you for everything you do!

It was a great day connecting with students and faculty at the Health Fair at Texas State Technical College in Marshall!

Oceans Behavioral Hospital - Longview was proud to be a sponsor for today’s event and spend time visiting with so many students who are preparing for their futures. TSTC does an incredible job building a skilled workforce and helping create a strong economic impact throughout our East Texas communities. Institutions like this are shaping the next generation of leaders, tradesmen, and professionals.

Our team had the opportunity to speak with many students and faculty about mental health, resources available in our community, and the importance of taking care of your well-being while working toward your goals. It’s always encouraging to see young people focused on their future while also learning the importance of mental wellness.

Thank you to TSTC for the partnership and for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful event today. We’re grateful to support a school that is investing in the strength and growth of our communities.

Our Community Liaison had the honor of attending Parent Night at Forest Park Middle School, where we had the opportunity to connect with parents and share information about supporting teens who may be struggling with their mental health.

Middle school can be a challenging time for many kids. Between academic pressure, social changes, and the stress of growing up, some teens quietly carry more than they should have to handle alone. Events like this give us a chance to talk with families about recognizing the signs that a child may be struggling and the resources available in our community to help.

We’re grateful to Forest Park Middle School for inviting us to be part of the conversation and for their commitment to supporting the well-being of their students. When schools, families, and community partners work together, we can make sure no child feels like they have to face those challenges alone.

Thank you to the parents and staff who took the time to visit with us. Your dedication to the mental health of your students is truly inspiring. 💙

During the City Council meeting, the City of Longview was officially awarded the Veteran Friendly Community designation by the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG). Several cities across the region applied, and Longview is proud to be only the third city to receive this designation.

Our CEO Vern Rennier had the honor of completing and submitting the application on behalf of the city, helping highlight the incredible work being done across Longview to support those who have served our country. During the meeting, Mayor Kristen Ishihara recognized and thanked him for his leadership in helping make this designation possible.

The room was filled with veterans who came to witness this moment, making it even more meaningful. It was a powerful reminder of the strong veteran presence in our community, and the deep respect Longview has for those who served.

This recognition is not just an award for the city, it represents a commitment to continue supporting our veterans, their families, and the organizations that serve them every day.

Congratulations to the City of Longview and to all the veterans who make this community stronger. We are honored to be part of a city that stands behind those who served.
