π October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Taking care of your health starts with knowing your body. Early action makes a difference, and it all begins with awareness. π
Hereβs how to do a simple self-exam at home:
1οΈβ£ Look
Stand in front of a mirror with your shoulders straight and hands on your hips. Look for any changes in size, shape, or color such as dimpling, swelling, or redness.
2οΈβ£ Lift
Raise your arms and look for the same changes from different angles.
3οΈβ£ Feel Your Breasts
Use the pads of your three middle fingers to check for lumps or thickened tissue. Move in small circles from the outer breast toward the ni**le, including underarms.
4οΈβ£ Lie Down
Repeat the same motion while lying down. This helps spread the tissue evenly and makes it easier to notice differences.
5οΈβ£ Do It Monthly
Doing it once a month helps you understand whatβs normal for you.
ποΈ Make it part of your routine:
Set a reminder on your phone or calendar, just like you would for a haircut or dentist visit. Two minutes a month can make a difference.
If you notice anything unusual, donβt wait to talk to a healthcare provider.
At Nova Family Care, our licensed providers can help you stay proactive about your health, answer your questions, and provide referrals when needed.
