When my son was 4 years old, I learned that my palate was the same width as his 🤯
That’s when I discovered my palate was extremely narrow. A typical adult palate is often around 45–55 mm wide, and mine measured only 31 mm 😳
As a teenager, I had upper premolars extracted, and my orthodontic treatment narrowed my upper jaw even more. At the time, I had no idea how much this could impact things like airway function, sleep quality, energy levels, attention, and overall health.
Because those symptoms were my “normal,” I didn’t realize how much I was struggling until later.
As an adult, I underwent expansion treatment, and it helped me not only aesthetically, but functionally too. I still have more work to do and am now on my MARPE journey.
Airway health matters SO much, and we’re grateful to help families support jaw growth and function while children are still developing — instead of needing more complex treatment as adults.
Thanks so much to the amazing Dr. Arias and her team
