🔎 Why We Assess Palate Shape

👄 Palate shape can impact:
• Speech sounds 🗣️
• Feeding & chewing 🍎
• Breathing & airway 🌬️
• Oral motor skills 💪

✅ Ideally, we want palates to be more U-shaped (room for tongue, dentition, airflow)
⚠️ A triangular palate can sometimes make speech, feeding, and breathing harder.

✨ Early identification helps us create the best plan for your child’s progress towards nasal breathing, communication & overall health.

🎃🍂 Pumpkin season is here! We found pumpkins at the store, and we had the best time washing and painting our pumpkin. Not only is this a fun fall activity, but it’s also a wonderful way to promote language:

✨ Building vocabulary (pumpkin, paint, water, brush)
✨ Using action words (wash, paint, dry)
✨ Expanding sentences (“I painted pumpkin!”)
✨ Describing items (soapy, wet, bumpy)
✨ Following simple directions

Playful, hands-on experiences like this help kids learn without even realizing it! 💛

👅 Let's talk tongue ties

It is important that during an initial evaluation that a therapist evaluates the structure and function of the oral cavity.

This little guy had been receiving speech therapy at another practice for a few years with limited progress. He came to our office and were able to identify his anterior restriction that significantly impacted his range of motion and functionally ability when eating, breathing, and speaking.
Tongue ties can impact so much more than people realize:
• ❌ Feeding and chewing
• ❌ Speech clarity and oral motor development
• ❌ Craniofacial development
• ❌ Breathing and resting posture
• ❌ Sleep quality
• ❌ And MORE!

When restrictions like this go unnoticed, progress in therapy can feel slow or frustrating. Identifying and addressing tongue ties early can make all the difference.
