👅 Let's talk tongue ties

It is important that during an initial evaluation that a therapist evaluates the structure and function of the oral cavity.

This little guy had been receiving speech therapy at another practice for a few years with limited progress. He came to our office and were able to identify his anterior restriction that significantly impacted his range of motion and functionally ability when eating, breathing, and speaking.
Tongue ties can impact so much more than people realize:
• ❌ Feeding and chewing
• ❌ Speech clarity and oral motor development
• ❌ Craniofacial development
• ❌ Breathing and resting posture
• ❌ Sleep quality
• ❌ And MORE!

When restrictions like this go unnoticed, progress in therapy can feel slow or frustrating. Identifying and addressing tongue ties early can make all the difference.

At All Things Communication, we have a therapist that specializes in oral motor and orofacial myofunctional therapy to support kids both before and after release procedures—helping them unlock their full potential. 💬✨

🍽 Oral Motor & Feeding Therapy in Action

Feeding isn’t always simple—it’s actually one of the most complex skills children learn. It involves:
👅 Tongue movement and coordination
💪 Jaw and lip strength
🧠 Sensory processing
❤️ Confidence and comfort with food

That’s why feeding therapy is so much more than “just eating.” In oral motor therapy, we use fun tools and activities to:
✨ Strengthen the muscles needed for chewing and swallowing
✨ Improve coordination for safer, more effective eating
✨ Support children in trying new foods and textures without stress

Every bite matters. Every skill practiced builds confidence at the table and beyond.

At All Things Communication, our goal is to help children not only eat safely but also enjoy mealtimes with their families. 💜

🌟 Movement = Increased Communication 🌟

At ATC, we know that kids learn best through play! When children climb, jump, push, pull, and explore with their hands, they’re not just moving their bodies—they’re also building the foundation for language and communication. 💬💪

Gross motor play + hands-on experiences =
✨ Stronger attention
✨ More opportunities to interact
✨ Natural chances to use words and gestures

That’s why we make therapy active, fun, and child-led—because communication grows when kids are engaged and moving! 💜

Yay! We are happy to have Awaken helping our patients receive occupational therapy services in office, homes, and schools 🥰

The best news ‼️ 🚨 🤍

This summer has been an absolute BLAST getting to serve families in the greater Orlando area. It’s been such a blast that I quickly realized my need for help to be able to serve all the kiddos needing quality OT services.

I am THRILLED that we now have a new team member and over the moon 🌙 that Bel is joining .

Aixabel Colón-Torres, COTA/L, earned her Occupational Therapy Assistant degree from Keiser University. She is fluent in Spanish and English.

She has over 6 years of experience with all ages. She has extensive knowledge and experience working with handwriting, sensory system differences, food exploration, and life skills development.

Aixabel (Bel) enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, traveling, reading, painting/drawing, going to Universal parks, and exploring new places (Museums, Gardens, Nature parks).

Her spots are already filling up and I can’t wait to see her serve our amazing kids!

💜 Connection comes first!!

Before we work on speech sounds, oral motor skills, and/or language goals—our number one priority is building a relationship.

Why? Because when a child feels safe, seen, and connected, communication naturally flourishes. ✨

In our sessions, play, joy, and trust are the foundation. Every giggle, every shared look, every silly game creates the perfect space for children to:
👉 Take risks with new words
👉 Try out new sounds
👉 Learn to express themselves confidently

At All Things Communication, we believe therapy should feel like fun—not work. Connection + fun = communication growth.

💬 Parents often tell us, “My child can’t wait to come to therapy!”—and that’s exactly how it should be.

👅 Let’s talk about tongue ties!

A tongue tie (ankyloglossia) happens when the band of tissue under the tongue (the frenulum) is too tight, limiting tongue movement and impacting function. While many people think tongue ties only affect babies and breastfeeding, the truth is… they can impact children (and even adults) in BIG ways!

💡 A tongue tie can contribute to:
🔹 Difficulty with certain speech sounds
🔹 Open-mouth posture or mouth breathing
🔹 Trouble with chewing/swallowing
🔹 Dental or orthodontic concerns
🔹 Sleep and airway challenges

That’s why we use orofacial myofunctional therapy—a fun, play-based way to help kids strengthen their oral muscles, improve tongue mobility, and support long-term growth and development.

✅ The goal isn’t just speech—it’s whole-body wellness: better breathing, better oral habits, and more confident communication.

💜 We’re so proud of our clients who work hard every day to build these lifelong skills!

🌿 Happy National Relaxation Day! 🌿

One of the simplest and most powerful ways to help your body relax is something you can do anytime, anywhere—nasal breathing. 🫁✨

When we breathe through our nose instead of our mouth, we:
✅ Activate the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) nervous system
✅ Lower heart rate and stress levels
✅ Improve oxygen exchange and overall focus
✅ Support better sleep and emotional regulation

Nasal breathing is more than just a habit—it’s a tool for calm, focus, and well-being. Whether you’re a child or an adult, taking a few slow nasal breaths can help your mind and body reset.

So today, pause for a moment, take a slow breath in through your nose… and let your body thank you. 💛
