🎣✨ Language + Articulation Fun on the Floor! ✨🎣
This magnetic fishing game isn’t just a hit with kids—it’s great for building communication skills too! 💬🐟 Here’s how we used it in speech therapy today to support both language development and articulation in a playful, engaging way:
🧠 Language Targets:
🔹 Expressive Vocabulary: “Let’s get the squid! It's a stingray. Where's the octopus?"
🔹 Describing Skills: “What color is it? What does it do? Where do you find it?”
🔹 Following Directions: “Catch two things that are blue and one that is round.”
🔹 Answering WH-Questions: “What did you catch? Where do we use it? Who wears that?”
🔹 Expanding Sentences: “I caught a ___.” ➡️ “I caught a green fish with big eyes!”
🗣 Articulation Targets:
🎯 Practice specific sound targets using the words on the fish (e.g., /s/ in “sock” or /k/ in “cookie”)
🎯 Repeat the target word 3–5 times after catching it
🎯 Embed sound-loaded phrases: “Catch a silly sock, funny fish, or crazy crab!”
💡 Pro Tip: Let the child lead the play. When they’re in charge, they’re more motivated to talk—and that’s when the magic happens!
Whether we’re working on sounds, expanding vocabulary, or building expressive language, floor-based play like this is packed with opportunities. ❤️🎣
