The moments that follow a car accident can be intimidating, scary and knowing where to turn can be confusing.

The good news is, you’re not alone and there’s nothing to fear. The physicians and soft tissue therapists at North Orlando Spine Center see patients who have been involved in accidents and we have your back.

Here are two top tips, if you end up involved in a car accident.

1️⃣ Delaying a medical evaluation means delaying care and possibly coverage. Know who to turn to.

When you seek help after your accident, your doctor at NOSC can help identify problems sooner, and start treatment on soft tissue that’s inflamed and painful. Early intervention helps you avoid a worsening condition or compensation. Also, Florida 14-day accident law requires injured victims to seek medical care within 14 days of a car accident to receive Personal Injury Protection Benefits. If you don’t fulfill this date, your insurance company may deny you coverage.

2️⃣ Injuries from auto accidents don’t always have outward symptoms.

Having a trusted resource for evaluation and management is critical.
It is estimated that more than 2 million Americans sustain whiplash every year. Many of these cases happen due to auto accidents.

Whiplash doesn’t always show up as neck pain. You might have symptoms such as tingling in your shoulders, headaches, or ringing in your ears and these can develop several days or weeks after the accident. It is important to rule out spinal disc and spinal cord injury.

Your body works hard to mask these injuries so you can keep functioning, but eventually they catch up to you. Early evaluation and treatment help you avoid unnecessary pain and get prompt care.

Welcome Dr. Juliana Mitchell to the North Orlando Spine Center Team!

Juliana Mitchell, D.C., R.N., B.S.N. is a former South Florida resident and now Central Florida transplant. Dr. Mitchell received her Associate of Science in Nursing from Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, Florida and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

After her own positive experience with chiropractic after an injury, Dr. Mitchell continued her education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida, where she received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

Dr. Mitchell prides herself in movement-based, conservative treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Finding the most effective, evidence-based treatment for her patients is one of her passions. Dr. Mitchell utilizes many chiropractic techniques, including Thompson, Diversified, Activator Method, and Cox Flexion Distraction; she is also skilled in several manual therapies such as pin and stretch, cupping, taping, trigger point therapy, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization.

Now an Orlando, Florida resident, Dr. Mitchell spends her free time weightlifting, traveling, and exploring the hidden gems of Central Florida.

From daily pain to a 600 pound deadlift.

"I was involved in a multicar accident. Most of my injuries were in the lower vertebrae. The injuries made daily routines such as grocery shopping painful and challenging. I felt if daily life was a challenge, my passion for lifting came to an end. Surgery seemed to be inevitable; however, I went to North Orlando Spine Center. With a multitude of various treatments throughout the course, dedication, and hard work I was able to continue with daily life without pain or surgery. I did not want to stop there. Long story short, I entered a lifting competition two years later at the age of 46. I completed a deadlift of 605 lbs. taking 1st place pain free. Looking back at the MRI and damage, I would never believe I would ever compete at an elite level. Thank you for everything. I cannot wait until next year!"
