That you’ll trip harder than any mushroom you ever did in college and vomit with the same ferocity and travel to places deep within yourself that you didn’t know existed. That you’ll float above your body and simultaneously be trapped in it with an intensity you’ve never tasted

And in that intensity, in the sweating and the swearing and the swaying and the vomiting and the endless hours of contractions crashing down upon you
You’ll find your strength
You’ll find a resilience you’ve never known
You’ll find the power you need for the journey of motherhood ahead

In the messy humanity of it all

They told you about the contractions, but did they tell you about the expansion? Did they tell you how your body would open to make way for the whole universe to pass through? Did they tell you how your heart would explode with a love bigger than anything you’ve ever known as you pulled your baby to your chest?

They told you about the ring of fire but did they tell you about the crown of stars?

Did they mention that there’s a moment when your baby enters the world and you leave your body and touch the heavens and become the light of a million galaxies? Did they tell you how the pain of stretching to receive your child would be more exsquisite than any sensation you’ve felt?

They told you would scream but did they tell you about how you would roar? Did they tell you about the power that would rise up from your belly as you called your baby forth with your mighty voice? Did they tell you how you would embody the wild woman within you and breathe fire with your song?

They told you would bleed, but did they tell you how that sacred blood wouldn’t scare you? How you would feel grateful for that magical liquid of life as it trickled down your leg- how you would honor its flow and how it would help you heal a lifetime of hating your body’s bleeding cycles.
They told these stories and taught you to fear birth, to fear your power, to fear yourself. But you’re stronger and wiser than that mama. You know that birth is your divine dance, your soul’s song, your moment with God, and you walk fearlessly into her open arms.

Hello it’s been a while since I’ve been in here and posted anything. I just wanted to update everyone and let you know I’ve relocated and moved to Longwood, Florida it has been our family’s dream to move here for quite some time. We enjoyed our first summer here and we love the weather. Now it’s time do start working on my doula business again and start working with what I love to do to serve moms and help their journey to motherhood an unforgettable experience. Pandemic no problem I’m still available for homebirths always at a low rate because hiring a doula should not be about whether or not you can afford one but about feeling supported in your birth journey.

Woman presents to hospital after breaking her waters, is having some early contractions but not too strong and the liquor is clear. It’s a low risk pregnancy and she’s had normal fetal movements. ⁣
⁣
They confirm rupture of membranes and a doctor comes in to discuss her options...⁣
⁣
1. Go home and wait labour out. Represent every 24hrs for a repeat CTG⁣ and be induced at 72hrs if labour hasn’t progressed.
2. Go to Birth Suite now and get augmented and have a baby sooner (cos the sooner the better, right?) 🙄⁣
⁣
The doctor talks to the woman about the risks of infection (with emphasis) and what that means for her baby. She briefly discusses the process of augmentation but doesn’t discuss the increase risk that she will want an epidural or her risk of bleeding heavily, or her increased risk of instrumental delivery, caesarean or episiotomy. Because that doesn’t matter, right? 🤷‍♀️

The woman is anxious about her baby getting an infection, more anxious about the risks she’s about to put on herself during an augmentation (because she doesn’t actually know them)

The woman decides to go to Birth suite and be augmented.⁣
⁣
6hrs into the labour she can’t handle the pain any longer and asks for an epidural. It’s sited and she has a rest. Then when it comes time to push, she’s excited and full of energy ⁣
⁣
The woman pushes for 1.5hrs with little descent of the baby’s head and the doctors decide its time to do an assisted delivery as the epidural had caused her to not be able to push effectively and now baby is becoming distressed. ⁣
⁣
Baby is delivered via vacuum delivery and the woman goes on to have a 700ml bleed.⁣
⁣
The doctor walks out with a smile, because she has successfully helped the woman bring her baby into the world safely. But little does she know, she’s actually caused it all.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is called a cascade of intervention. My advice? If you are low risk and there is no indication for augmentation. GO HOME! Be informed, stand up for yourself and
