I used to think spiritual growth meant trying harder.

Doing more.
Getting it right.
Becoming “better.”

But slowly, I’m learning:
Love does not strain, pressure, or compete.

And nothing in our lives is too small to place in Love’s hands.

This week, I explore the subtle ways minimizing and striving can quietly keep us from peace.

Finding peace beyond minimizing, pressure, and self-effort

Not all “good works” come from Love. Some come from the quiet need to be noticed.

Why slowing down may be the most honest form of spiritual practice

Said "thank you" to a compliment without immediately listing my flaws.
Cried about it later. But still. Growth. ✨️

How does your critical voice affect you?

We all wrestle with negative self-talk from time to time. It feeds on the impossibly high standards we set for ourselves and seems to grow louder with every little mistake.

So, how do we quiet this inner voice?

It starts with a simple but powerful shift: giving ourselves permission to be human. Humans make mistakes. We have imperfect bodies, unproductive days, and moments when we fall short as friends, parents, or partners. Sometimes we mess up. Sometimes we struggle. And while it’s hard to face, it’s also what makes us human.

Learning to set aside perfectionism and embrace self-compassion takes time, but it’s a journey worth taking. When life gets tough, showing ourselves kindness can make all the difference.

The next time your inner critic starts up, try reflecting on these affirmations and practice speaking to yourself with care. It might feel awkward at first, but reminding yourself it’s okay to be human can bring relief and nurture a kinder, more loving relationship with yourself.

We’d love to hear how these affirmations resonate with you or about your own ways of practicing self-kindness. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
