Meet Elaine, she was determined to get back to the activities she loves. Before starting therapy, walking and going to the gym were painful and challenging.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

🔍 How to Identify a Tongue or Lip Tie
A tongue tie (ankyloglossia) occurs when the lingual frenulum (the tissue under the tongue) is too short or tight, restricting tongue movement. A lip tie happens when the labial frenulum (the tissue under the upper lip) is too tight, limiting lip mobility.

🚼 Signs in Infants:

💙Difficulty latching or staying latched during breastfeeding
💛Clicking sounds while feeding
💙Poor weight gain despite frequent feeding
💛Gassiness or reflux due to swallowing excess air
💙Mom experiencing ni**le pain, cracked ni**les, or low milk supply

🧒 Signs in Toddlers & Children:

💛Difficulty with certain speech sounds (e.g., "L," "R," "T," "D," "S")
💙Trouble sticking out tongue or lifting it to the roof of the mouth
💛Difficulty swallowing or chewing certain foods
💙Gap between front teeth (especially with a lip tie)
💛Mouth breathing or snoring

⚕️ Treatment Options

If a tongue or lip tie is affecting function, a frenectomy (a quick procedure to release the tight tissue) may be recommended.
〰️Laser Frenectomy: A minimally invasive option with reduced bleeding and faster healing.
〰️Scissor Release: A traditional method performed with sterile scissors.

✅ Post-Treatment & Follow-Up Care
Releasing the tie is only the first step! Proper follow-up care ensures optimal healing and function!
✔️Speech Therapy: Supports proper tongue function, swallowing, speech development and helps release tension and optimize oral function. Helps to prevent reattachment and improve tongue/lip mobility and can provide lactation support to help with breastfeeding adjustments after treatment.

If you or your child show signs of a tongue or lip tie, consult consultant our speech therapist for an evaluation. Early intervention can prevent future complications and improve quality of life.
