Girl Scout Troop 4756 visited Urban Air and the Mississippi State Capitol building on a sunny Monday afternoon , eager to learn about the structure and function of the state government. As they walked through the historic building, they couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and curiosity.
Their tour guide, Mrs.Sharon & special guest Mr. Jeffery Harness, Representative of District 85, greeted them warmly and began to explain the roles of the Governor, Legislature, and other elected officials. The girls listened intently as he described how these leaders work together to make decisions and pass laws.
As they entered the Senate Chamber, Mr. Harness pointed out the ornate architecture and explained its significance. He told them about the importance of leadership and how leaders work together to make decisions that benefit the community. The girls asked thoughtful questions, eager to learn more about the democratic process.
One Girl Scout asked, "How do you decide which laws to pass?" Mr. Harness replied, "That's a great question! As a leader, I have to consider the needs and opinions of my constituents, as well as the impact on our state as a whole." The girls nodded thoughtfully, taking mental notes.
Mr.Harness discussed the importance of communication in leadership. He explained how effective communication is key to making sure everyone is on the same page and working towards a common goal. The girls practiced active listening by asking follow-up questions and sharing their own thoughts and ideas.
One Girl Scout shared her own experience with leading her troop, saying, "When we work together as a team, we can accomplish so much more than we could alone." Mr.Harness smiled and said, "That's exactly what we do here in government - we work together as a team to make decisions that benefit our state."
The girls left the Capitol building feeling inspired and informed about the democratic process. They had learned valuable lessons about leadership, communication, and teamwork from Mr. Jeffery Harness and Mrs. Sharon. As they walked away from the Capitol building, they couldn't help but think about how they could apply these skills in their own lives and in their troop.
