In ordinary people, the kidneys are a system of tubes and tubules that can purify the blood and form urine. This is a kind of filter that passes a barrel of blood (up to 200 liters) through itself every day and purifies it of toxic products. With polycystic disease, during life, the fine architecture of the kidney changes, turning into a set of multiple blisters - cysts. Their source is the epithelial cells of the renal tubules.
At some point, there comes a critical period for the patient, when the remaining tubes can no longer cope with the load. Often such a time occurs quite unexpectedly for the patient due to a long "calm" in the development of symptoms and late diagnosis. How are cysts formed?
