Hello Spring! From a Chinese Medicine perspective, we associate the Liver, Gallbladder, and the Wood element with this time of year. It's a period when qi is closer to the surface, much like the new growth budding on trees. However, along with the beautiful green hills and wildflowers, allergies can also arise, causing discomfort for many. The Liver plays a crucial role in regulating the smooth flow of qi and emotions in the body. When the Liver is balanced, we experience flexibility, creativity, and improved decision-making abilities. Conversely, when the Liver is imbalanced, symptoms such as irritability, anger, headaches, digestive issues, muscle twitches, hay fever, and sleep troubles may arise. One of the ways we make qi after birth is through the food we eat. It's important to optimize this process throughout life so that we don't burn through our prenatal qi (savings account or constitutional qi). Good food absorption and breath work are our checking accounts.

Mindfulness is simply paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and openness, without judgement. Mindfulness through the lens of eating means to slow down, pay attention to our food and notice how it looks, f...

Happy Year of the Dragon! Early February marks the beginning of the Year of the Yang Wood Dragon. I recently attended a talk by CT Holman where I learned some of the forecasts for this coming year. It is thought that with its wood and yang energy, this year will be a good one for new endeavors (ideal to wait for spring for a hard launch). There will be lots of energy to move forward on things. It's important not to get stuck in old patterns and also important to stay grounded in routines around diet, sleep, exercise, and nutrition. The dragon has been known to change its mind often. Happy winter solstice from all of us at White Peony Acupuncture. Winter is a time when the qi in our body resides more deeply. A time to rest and reflect. Ideally a time to do a little less activity. It’s when we are meant to nurture our deep stores of energy so that we can burst forth in the spring like the daffodils. As the year wraps up (how in the world is it already mid December?) We wanted to send one last end of year note. Do you have a New year tradition/ritual? On New Year's Eve, my family and I have a tradition of writing down two words. One signifies what we want to bring into the new year and the other what we would like to leave behind. Just one word. Then we burn the piece of paper with the word we are leaving (the boys love this part). I invite you to try this or something different that you do to mark the transition from one year into another. It is always useful to set an intention for the year. I like to stick the intention/word somewhere where I will see it daily. Read full newsletetter at
