Good news, WIC families! You can now use your California WIC Card at WIC authorized farmers’ markets.

The new WIC Card now has a quick-response (QR) code, making it easy to use your Fruits and Vegetables Benefit at farmers’ markets. Use your card to buy fresh and organic, locally grown produce. 🍅🥦🍇🥕

Here is how it works:
1. Shop at a WIC authorized farmers’ market.
2. Show your WIC Card, and the farmer will scan the QR code.
3. Confirm your purchase by entering your PIN, and enjoy fresh, local fruits and vegetables.

Support their choice to breastfeed and give them space to learn

The handout, “Your WIC Guide to Breastfeeding” has even more tips! It can help you support someone in your life who is breastfeeding.

WIC is here for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) who breastfeed!

Breastfeeding guidance from experts who speak AANHPI languages
Breastfeeding groups and peer-to-peer support
Resource materials in languages like Hmong, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.

Whether you have experience or are new to breastfeeding, WIC can assist you. Reach out to us at 91997.

Indigenous Milk Medicine Week occurs every year from August 8-14! 😃

Breastfeeding is a traditional practice in indigenous communities. Breastmilk is the first sacred food. It is the best nutrition for an infant. It nourishes the newborn’s mind and spirit. Breastfeeding strengthens connections between generations.

This week, we honor and celebrate indigenous breastfeeding experiences and reclaiming ancestral birthing and parenting practices.

You do not have to figure out breastfeeding on your own.

All of our WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are parents who have also breastfed, so they understand.

WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors can:
• Offer you practical breastfeeding advice.
• Answer your infant feeding questions.
• Help you feel more confident with breastfeeding—whether you are just getting started or have been feeding for a while.

During National Breastfeeding Month, ask your local WIC office if breastfeeding peer counseling is available.

We are pleased to share that our Little by Little School Readiness Program (LBL) has been renewed for an additional three years thanks to generous support from Ballmer Group.

LBL is an evidence-based early literacy program of PHFE WIC Program (Official), part of Heluna Heath’s Breastfeeding and Nutrition Services team, providing free, high-quality books and parental support and instruction for families engaged in the WIC program.

The grant from Ballmer Group will support programming at three key WIC Little by Little “hub” sites in Los Angeles County that serve 18,500 participants annually. This support will provide 160,000 books to families over three years and enable strategic planning to diversify funding, ensuring the program’s sustainability and demonstrating its impact on WIC retention and community service delivery.

“Research has shown that children who go through LBL are more school ready than those who do not, and so we are deeply grateful to Ballmer Group for providing generous support to continue this essential program,” shared Dr. Blayne Cutler, Heluna Health CEO.
