my mom wasn’t able to break the cycle, so she told me to do it instead 💪🏼

for what it’s worth, there are some practical reasons why boomer women couldn’t leave toxic relationships as easily

for example, women have only been allowed to get mortgages on their own in the USA since 1974

as a millenial, my mom didn’t have the same freedom or agency to leave when things got toxic

but she didn’t want me to take any sh*t from a cheating man 💪🏼

even though my mom wasn’t able to break the cycle for practical reasons,

she reassured me it was good that I left my marriage when my ex-husband got toxic

I rebuilt my life from rock bottom in my mid 30s and became authentic, joyful, and successful

and my mom sent me sweet greeting cards all the time

and told me over and over again how happy she was for me 🥹

(and I’m really grateful for that)

the silent struggle of being overstimulated AND high functioning

for what it’s worth, when I was diagnosed as neurodivergent recently,

I discovered that the majority of my anxiety and constant overwhelm is just from being overstimulated…

you can be overstimulated if you’re neurodivergent, if you’ve gone thru trauma, or if you’ve been living / working in a high stress environment long-term (this one’s super common for moms)

and y’all it’s strange because it really impacts my life...

like “let’s go to the supermarket?” HARD PASS.

“wanna go to the Cardi B concert?” NOT WITHOUT EARPLUGS.

“wanna wear socks since you’re cold?” NOT AFTER 8pm.
