I was invited to scout some players today at Mamba Cup Tournament Series, and I had so much fun watching 13 years old competing.

Mamba Sports Academy is fantastic!

I developed a 7 class series to teach young players basic mental game skills that will help them to improve their performance. I will post a flyer on this page tomorrow. ๐Ÿ€

What is the difference between mental performance and mental health resources for athletes?

High-Performance coach Jake Rauchbach explained it very succinctly in his article about these two disciplines and how they intertwine. Check out an excerpt from his article below, or follow the link to Basketball Insiders to read the whole piece.

๐Ÿ€ The Difference Between The Two ๐Ÿ€

โ€œAs the head coach, to have the offense run smoothly, you wouldnโ€™t put a power forward at the point guard spot, nor would you necessarily put your point guard at the power forward spot. Yes, both are basketball players, but no, their skill-sets are generally not the same, nor are they applied as such during the game. There are always exceptions, and in this case, players like LeBron James โ€“ who add value at multiple positions โ€“ is the anomaly. However, this is not the norm.

For the Mental Health Resource and Mental Performance Resource, the same holds true. Although these two professionals play on the same proverbial court, it is not best practice to interchange the two. For instance, putting the Clinical Psychologist or Counselor in the game to improve a playerโ€™s performance is ineffectual because this is not their expertise. Employing the Mental Performance Resource for clinical issues, such as drug addiction, is not best practice and may be inappropriate.โ€

๐Ÿ€Thank you, everyone, for getting this page 99 likes! We will be posting a new page cover and new profile picture by the middle of next week. Come back next week to check it out. It will look better than the current stand-ins.

In the meantime, Slobodan wrote another blog post about basketball mental game skills. It will go live soon, but here is a link below if you want to read about top distractions that hinder b-ball performance. ๐Ÿ€

We are planning to make a series of videos that will cover topics such as athletic mental energy, the Zone, confidence, top distractions, and other basics of mental game in sports. This video is a long version of an intro for youtube videos.

Today is the official opening of Dr. Slobodan's LA Sport Psych page. Here is a link to the first 'news' post that is about basketball mental game skills. Dr. Slobodan writes about a proper breathing technique that is necessary for increasing oxygen levels and having more mental focus. Enjoy.
