An invigorating practice of twists to lift the heaviness of winter and energize us for the upcoming season of spring!

This week: online only.

Our Sunday community class is open to all as part of our ongoing efforts to keep Iyengar yoga accessible. This is a donation based class where the topic and the teacher change weekly.
Recordings are available for two days.

About Monica: Monica started on the path of Iyengar Yoga in 1996 in Seattle, Washington. Through the encouragement and support of her teachers, her interest grew into a desire to teach. In 2002, Monica moved to Los Angeles to do the teacher training program at IYILA to deepen her understanding of Iyengar Yoga. She apprenticed for several years and was the lead assistant in the Iyengar Yoga therapy program at IYILA. She enjoys learning about the therapeutic applications of āsana to help others find relief from pain, healing, and greater ease of movement. Monica has been fortunate enough to study directly with the Iyengar family in the U.S. and in India. She is delighted to share the gift of Iyengar Yoga with others, from those just beginning their yoga journey to those with more experience.

Don’t miss this chance to deepen your practice with Jaki Nett.

The sessions will be an interplay between asana and anatomical movements. Muscular skeletal principles of movement will be the foundation to bring a different conscious view to understanding the precision of Iyengar yoga and anatomical movements.

We recommend joining all sessions but drop-ins are welcome. Recordings will be available for 60 days.

A minimum of six months Iyengar yoga experience is suggested.

“Yoga āsana is the foundation, anatomy is the insight; precision of postural alignment with a deeper connection with the essence of the āsana is the outcome.” Jaki Nett

Jaki Nett earned her Sr. Level 1 Iyengar certification (now level 3) in 2005. She has been an Assessor for over 30 years. She traveled to RIMYI in 1986 to study under the tutelage of BKS Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar and has returned over 25 times.

We are delighted to have her join us in person in Los Angeles, offering a hybrid workshop.

The sessions will be an interplay between āsana and anatomical movements. Muscular skeletal principles of movement will be the foundation to bring a different conscious view to understanding the precision of Iyengar yoga and anatomical actions.

All welcome though six months minimum of Iyengar yoga practice is suggested.

Black History is American history. This month and every month we celebrate and honor the immeasurable contributions of Black leaders.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar took up yoga after joining the LA Lakers in 1975. He incorporated the practice into his regular fitness routine to improve mobility and to aid in recovery, saying, “There is no way I could have played as long as I did without yoga.” He played for 20 seasons!

Here he is pictured in Garudāsana, Eagle pose. Photo credit: Sports Illustrated blog.

Join our Saturday Pop-Ups. Most Saturday afternoons, the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles offers special topic classes allowing you to explore in greater depth. This is a deeper understanding of the practice and of yourself.

This Saturday, teacher Becky Patel explores hips.

Preparing the hips for seated poses:
Seated poses are the foundation for meditation and pranayama. In this pop up class, we’ll explore how to prepare the hips and groins so seated asanas feel stable, upright, and at ease. With an emphasis on alignment and the intelligent use of props, this class supports students who experience discomfort while sitting and those seeking a stronger base for stillness and breath work.

All welcome: online and in-person.
