I haven’t been on here much after a wild end to 2023.

I discovered I was BRCA2 positive and have been on a journey towards getting preventative surgeries to increase my chances of longevity.

All this while studying for my licensure exam in April! Self love has looked like lots of home cooked meals, time management, and dr’s appointments.

I’ve got A LOT on my plate, but I’m very lucky to be loved and cared for by beautiful, patient, and understanding friends and family, near and far. Grateful to everyone (and Zoloft) for their check-ins, well-wishes, and encouragement as I tackle 2024.

I turn 36 next week. What a time to be alive.

Emotions are similar to the changing weather. Depending on the conditions, things can shift suddenly and without warning. The practice of Mindfulness can act as an emotional "weather channel." Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment, observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Codependency is a pattern of behavior that often emerges from a deep care and concern for others. People who struggle with codependency tend to put the needs and feelings of others before their own, sometimes to the extent that it can be emotionally draining for them.

Personal note: I have struggled with heavy codependency in the past. I now understand that some of my best qualities make me susceptible to engaging in codependent behaviors. However, learning to utilize boundaries and create more space for myself has helped me understand that I deserve the care I pour into others. Putting yourself first is not selfish; it's responsible.

A person's worth is not determined by appearance because actual value lies in character, qualities, and contributions to the authentic self. Beauty standards are subjective and ever-changing, making it unfair to judge someone's worth based solely on their external appearance. The richness of a person's life experiences, relationships, talents, and personal growth holds far greater significance than their physical appearance. Everyone is unique and possesses inherent worth and dignity, irrespective of how they may conform to societal beauty ideals. Embracing and appreciating this diversity promotes a more inclusive and compassionate society.

What does being "Body Neutral" mean?

Body neutrality is a practice that promotes a balanced and accepting perspective toward one's body. It focuses on shifting the emphasis from appearance to functionality and experiences. In a body-neutral mindset, the goal is not necessarily to love or hate one's body but view it from a neutral perspective. This means acknowledging that the body is an integral part of one's self but not allowing its appearance to define one's worth or self-esteem. It helps cultivate gratitude for what the body can do, how it supports everyday activities, and the sensations it provides. It can also alleviate the pressure of striving for body positivity when battling intrusive thoughts about negative body image. Body-Positivity & Body-Neutrality can be co-practiced. Your journey does not have to be a "one philosophy fits all" experience.
