Join the City of San Fernando as we honor the resilience, love, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community during this year's Pride celebration.

This year, we pay special tribute to the life and legacy of Matthew Shepard, whose tragic death in 1998 sparked a nationwide movement against hate and discrimination. In remembering Matthew, we reaffirm our city’s commitment to justice, inclusion, and the right of every individual to live openly, authentically, and safely.

Let this ceremony be a space for unity, reflection, and hope—as we come together to uplift one another and work toward a more compassionate future for all.

National Health Center Week is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the health needs of communities and advocating for the funding and policies that support Community Health Centers. This year's observance take place from August 4-10, centered around the theme, “Powering Communities Through Caring Connections.”

San Fernando Community Health Center, LaVida Care, stand as vital pillars of strength and care within their neighborhoods, providing support during times of hardship and fostering hope during moments of success. This week serves as a platform to recognize the dedication and enthusiasm of the staff, board members, and advocates who enable the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services to their patients.

Research suggests that HIV negative MSMs have a 20 times higher likelihood of being diagnosed with a**l cancer. A**l cancer is primarily caused by the same strains of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) responsible for cervical cancer in women. Approximately 65% of HIV negative MSMs and 95% of HIV-positive MSMs carry a**l HPV. HPV transmission occurs through s*xual skin-to-skin contact, with condom use only partially reducing the risk.

Factors that contribute to an increased risk of a**l cancer include having multiple s*x partners, alcohol, drug, and to***co use. Vaccination against HPV infection is considered the most effective form of prevention for a**l cancer.

National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) highlights the significance of HIV testing for a healthy lifestyle. The LaVida Care HIV prevention program at San Fernando Community Health Center hosted a Pizza n’ HIV Testing Day on June 27th from 10-12pm in front of their clinic. This event provided HIV rapid tests and at-home test kits to encourage self-care and informed health choices, regardless of the test results. The event also saw participation from various departments, including Outreach & Enrollment, Diabetes Management and the Community Public Health Team of Providence.

This event aims to provide HIV rapid tests to promote self-care and informed health decisions, irrespective of the test outcome.
